Many in EMS today were not yet alive or were small children.
It is your responsibility to not let this story be lost.
Do not forget the strength, selflessness, and extraordinary heroism of our brothers and sisters that day, many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice. We must not forget their families who also sacrificed and continue to do so today.
As we came into the next day it was not about red or blue, it was not about black or white.
Our sense of security was gone, our hearts ached, and our minds burned, but we were together. We were resilient. Our resolve to be a people had begun 225 years before. A sense of patriotism surged within us.
In the twenty years that have passed we have forgotten yesterday and our commonality.
We have become complacent, fatigued, and unraveled as a people.
Today we must sharpen our resolve to be ever vigilant. The world stage has been reset with renewed turmoil, the threat to our lives increasing. We must learn to blend a heightened awareness with compassion for each other.
