Once everyone has settled into the year and has started to get comfortable into the rhythm of their classes, we introduce some educational content into their class plan. At Dance Habit we believe knowledge is power, and the more you know about the art, the more you appreciate it and engage in it. We have seen immense growth in many students once they finally understand the context of what they are learning. It is also a great opportunity to teach about diversity in dance, roots and origins, anatomy and injury prevention, and important names in the world of dance.
Students enjoy watching short videos about the history of the dance style they practice or learning fun facts about how some steps developed. Other times, this extra content in their lessons will prompt stimulating conversations or movement exercises.
This term also includes our Midyear Performance in June (the 17th this year), which is a very relaxed opportunity to perform in front of peers, friends and family. In this event, there is no stage, no lights, no costumes. Just dance and community support. Each class, from juniors to adults, takes turns showing a choreography they have been working on and we all get to share without studio walls separating us. We love the Midyear Performance!
