Or, where is the next book in Malthusia, Paint, DeMMonica, Hybrid, etc coming out? I've been waiting sooooo long for it.
I've been asked this question a few times recently, mainly about Malthusia and Paint. I understand and feel your frustration. So I thought I'd let you in on how my release planning works.
1. Characters are like hungry birds. (actual birds, not the game) This might be difficult for non-writers to understand, but it's damn difficult to concentrate on telling a character's story when another, or several others, are shouting 'me me me' even louder. I know how Tav and Mir's story continues. I know what Alex and Chris from Paint do next, but they seem pretty content to wait while others push to the front. If you know Kaspar in LIES, well, it's a little like that. The other voices are there, but they don't have the 'mic' right now.
2. I need variety.
Writing a whole series back to back is exhausting. The characters stop talking, and it can be like getting blood out of a stone rather than enthusiastic, finger-aching, keyboard pounding which is what happens when i'm in a writing groove. Going with my muse means books appear faster than if I'm trying to pull words out one sentence at a time.
3. Not everyone likes every series.
Some of you love contemporary, some love paranormal, some love both. If I concentrated exclusively on one series/genre, the fans of the other genre might feel abandoned, and I love you ALL!
4. The muse does what the muse wants. Sometimes ideas strike like lightning. A new character seizes the mic and won't relinquish it until their story is written. IMPrisoned was a story like that. I visited a stately home and BAM, Alastor started bugging me. And boy can he be irritating and persistent when he wants to be.
I guess it comes down to this. I always PLAN to finish a series in a timely fashion, but life happens, ideas strike, and characters can be annoying shits sometimes, so I adjust as needed so the words always flow. All my MM series will progress, will be finished at some point. I love them all too much to abandon them.
P.S. Pester power Really helps to keep a character knocking on the inside of my head. So, if you want to hear more from one of them, hit the button below.
