Here's a reader submission (speaking of 'shrooms) from Diane Meyers, who took a self-guided fern walk at Jennings Environmental Education Center last weekend.
She reports 11 ferns and some really great mushrooms, too.
By the way, if you happen to be in my neck of the woods, the Stackhouse Park in Johnstown is hosting a "Safe Mushroom Hunting" outing on October 13. They report the first of these events a sell-out so make arrangements soon!
Marci shared that she recently found a Comb Coral mushroom, which she and her husband prepared by dipping into a thin pancake batter and lightly frying … like a mushroom funnel cake. Delicious! (Marci reminds us to only eat mushrooms if you can accurately identify them. Which means that Safe Mushroom Hunting class - or one just like it - would be a very valuable expenditure of time and money!)
