Graduation brings many changes into our lives, but the Bible provides guidance and direction. This morning as we celebrate the class of 2024, we look at Bible verses that offer encouragement for the road ahead.

Isaiah 58:11 promises..."And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”

And Matthew 5:16 advises…"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Deuteronomy 31:8 reassures with… "It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

And 1 Timothy 4:12 guides us with…"Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

Proverbs 16:3 instructs us to…"Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”

And Philippians 1:9-11 encourages us with … "And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

To God Be The Glory….for scriptures to encourage graduates. It's time to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of our graduates, and to inspire their mind and heart to focus on the hope and promise that God has for them!

Children’s Sunday Worship and Bible Study for ages 5 to 12 years old starts each Sunday at 10:45 am in the Joanna Childress Room. Parents please register your child to attend.

2024 Graduate Recognition Sunday

Psalm 25:4-5 "Show me Your ways, LORD, teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long".

This morning we were blessed to celebrate with families and friends, “Graduate Recognition Sunday” at Historic Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church!

The Educational Ministry program was presented by Sis. Christa Dunn, Dr. Alyce Emerson, Sis. Gloria Conner, Sis. Yolanda Jackson and Sis. LaTonya Jackson.

Sis. Christa Dunn announced recipients of the “Textbook Awards.” $125 was presented to graduating seniors to aid college students in the purchase of textbooks for their future studies. This year’s 2024 recipients are Michelle Moore, Miracle Godfrey, Lauren Allen, Tyson Baldwin, Shakari Washington, and Jacques Quiza.

Sis. Yolanda Jackson, Co-Chair of the Scholarship Committee, presented Historic Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church Scholarships ( $500.00) to Jalen Bright and Addison Jones.

Angela Thomas—President’s Award from BCTC

Beautiful soul stirring songs sung by the choir included, “Victory,” “Jesus Promised,” and “That’s When You Bless Me.”

Rev. Herbert T. Owens, Jr. shared a heartfelt message from 1 John 4:16-21 entitled, “All We Need Is Love…the Complete, Divine Love.” He poignantly reminded us that “God is love and whoever abides in love abides in God and God abides in him.” Love for God and others is the way to continuous growth in the Lord. Those who do so have God living in them. Rev. Owens emphasized agape love…an unconditional love that has no strings attached. He reminded all of a simple principle, “Forgiveness always, regardless.” He then led the congregation in singing “All I Need Is In Jesus.”

Rev. Ron Jones shared personal praise reports. His youngest granddaughter recently underwent surgery and “God got her through the surgery.” He testified how God is the “Great Physician.” He also shared how his oldest granddaughter Olivia graduated from high school this year! He relished in the goodness of God and how He hears our prayers!

A delightful celebratory reception followed morning service in the Sunday School area for honorees, family, friends and all in attendance.

To God Be The Glory for the joy shared as the congregation  celebrated with each graduate whose faith, knowledge, wisdom and talents we have watched grow and mature over the years!

FLU

Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.

Flu shots are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding a flu vaccination.

RSV

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common, contagious virus that usually causes mild symptoms. In older adults and adults with certain underlying conditions, RSV can cause severe infections.

COVID-19

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention. Older people and those with underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Anyone can get sick with COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease and how the virus spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by staying at least 1 metre apart from others, wearing a properly fitted mask, and washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently. Get vaccinated when it’s your turn and follow local guidance.

The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. These particles range from larger respiratory droplets to smaller aerosols. It is important to practice respiratory etiquette, for example by coughing into a flexed elbow, and to stay home and self-isolate until you recover if you feel unwell.

Both COVID vaccines and Booster COVID vaccines are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding COVID vaccinations.
