Noah’s takes second place in UK Fish & Chip Restaurant of the Year
A Bristol fish & chip restaurant and seafood kitchen was runner up in Restaurant of the Year on Wednesday at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2026, narrowly missing out to Trenchers of Whitby.
Noah’s, a family-run restaurant tucked under the flyover at Cumberland Basin has been open almost three years, garnering glowing national reviews and industry acclaim during that time.
For husband-and-wife team, Dan and Joie Rosser, this week’s 2nd place recognition is another step closer to the top spot in the prestigious competition, after coming 3rd in the same category in 2024.

Our March issue is out next week!
Our March issue is sure to set tails wagging: we’ve gone behind the scenes with Five Mile Films who are the makers of BAFTA-nominated Channel 4 series The Dog House; we’ve got a wonderful selection of gifts for the dog lovers in your life; we’ve chatted to the owner of Longwell Records (which, as it happens, has a dog-themed logo) about his recent move from Keynsham to Clifton Arcade; we learnt about the story of Queer Hiking Bristol, who have been traversing the hills and paths of our region (which your four-legged friends would also love); and we heard from artist Frank Morris who’s been drawing our city’s local pubs – why not take your pup along for a pint and sit inside a work of art? All that, and plenty more things to do and see throughout the month. You won’t want to read anything else!
In the meantime, catch up on our February issue online here

Summit Journal
For a while we had a glut of indie mountain climbing magazines and then – post-pandemic – we had none. But there’s been a rebirth and we now have Summit Journal, a reincarnated version of a vintage US climbing magazine now focused more on the soul of climbing through imaginative storytelling rather than breathtaking photography, but there’s plenty of the latter. Remembrance is the theme of this Spring issue which asks readers who is remembered and who is forgotten, what are the details of a that climb stay in your memory and which ones fade, and so on. The life and death of legendary Belgian free climber Claudio Barbier is retold, US-based UK climbing guide Nick Yardley recalls how a bucket list trip led him to his current life and there is a photo-essay on the revitalised Yosemite climbing scene.

Bristol Old Vic Theatre School presents Paradise, Spring Season at the Station, 14 - 21 March
Kae Tempest’s “Paradise” is an epic and uncompromising modern reimagining of Sophocles’ ancient Greek tragedy, Philoctetes.
The play relocates the classical tale of war, honour, and betrayal to a desolate, contemporary setting—an island ravaged by conflict and potentially climate change, which functions as a modern-day refugee camp or dumping ground.
The central story revolves around Philoctetes, a once-celebrated soldier and master archer, who was left stranded on the island ten years earlier by his commander, Odysseus, after suffering a foul-smelling wound. Now, as the war rages on, Odysseus returns with the young soldier Neoptolemus to manipulate and trick Philoctetes into returning to the fight with his legendary, life-winning bow, forcing a moral confrontation about pride, truth, and revenge.

Bristol Bach Choir present Mass in B Minor, J.S. Bach, 21 March
Described by Parry as ‘the mightiest choral work ever written’, the Mass in B minor by J.S. Bach is unquestionably one of the keystones of the repertoire. Bristol Bach Choir will present a performance of this eternally fresh masterpiece with the Bristol Ensemble on Baroque Instruments. The acoustics of St George’s will be the ideal place in which to hear this work with its wide-ranging textures of arias, ensembles and choruses and to wonder again at Bach’s seemingly bottomless source of inspiration.
7.30 pm | St George’s, Brandon Hill, Great George Street BS1 5RR
Tickets: £30, £26, £20, £12, Students & under 18s (suitable for over 10s) £5

A beautifully renovated family home in Abbots Leigh
6 Bedrooms | 4 Bathrooms | 4 Receptions | Offers in Excess of, £3,000,000
Offered for sale by Rupert Oliver Property Agents
Leigh Lodge is a stunning family home; beautifully renovated and lovingly refurbished by the current owners who commissioned renowned Bristol based design & build firm Moon to comprehensibly redesign and refurbish the house.
The result is nothing short of exquisite; with an eye-catching level of attention to detail internally, whilst simultaneously landscaping the extensive gardens and grounds externally; complete with the installation of a new heated outdoor pool, glazed summer house and the creation of garden stores, fruit beds and garden walkways.
To the front, electric double gates give way to an expanse of tarmac parking; in addition to the garage, extensive workshop and additional storage. The front garden, neatly walled from the road and driveway with a secure pedestrian gate has also been beautifully landscaped with formal parterres centred around a Corten steel water feature.

The entrance hall is magnificent; with its original flag-stone floor opening up via an ornamental arch to the stunning turned balustrade central staircase, itself leading to the upper floors. In addition there is access to a useful cloakroom, as well as access into each of the principal reception rooms.
The sitting room is exquisite; with a stripped wooden floor and beautiful natural light flooding in from the oversize triple sash bay-window overlooking the gorgeous gardens and pool beyond. A cast-iron wood burning stove provides additional warmth in the winter whilst the attractive marble surround a focal point for the room.
Adjacent to the sitting room is a charming family room / snug – perfect for weekend sports' or family film, or to hunker down with a good book. Like the more formal sitting room next door this too enjoys views over the garden, as well as a suitably sized cast-iron stove.
From the entrance hall, the dining room provides a perfect entertaining space; adjacent to the kitchen with a stripped wooden floor and a feature open fireplace, flanked by a recessed alcove perfect for housing the drinks cabinet. The kitchen itself is exquisite; tailored to create the very most of the space it centres around the electric AGA and over-sized island & breakfast bar.

Upstairs, the original turned balustrade staircase leads to the upper floors, with a fabulous home-office engineered within the deep first floor landing space, capturing the natural light from twin sash windows.
Like downstairs, the rooms are beautifully decorated with pops of colour, individual wallpapers and feature cast-iron radiators, with enough space over the two floors for families of all ages and size.
Across the first floor lies the stunning master-suite with its dressing room and en-suite shower room, as well as far reaching views across the rear garden. Two further bedrooms with two bath / shower rooms (one en-suite) make up the remainder of the first floor space, as well as an incredibly useful walk-in shelved linen cupboard.
Across the top floor lie three further double bedrooms as well as a playroom and well-appointed family bath & shower room; with the two rear bedrooms enjoying the best views of the house, right across the Bristol channel to Wales.
Undoubtably the gardens and grounds of Leigh Lodge help separate it from the mere “ordinary”; expertly landscaped to capture and enjoy the sun from sunrise to sunset they centre off the rear of the house, leading down to the (air-source) heated swimming pool, glazed pool house (complete with gas-fired fire-pit) and a large paved dining terrace running across the full width of the house. The lawn literally extends into the distance, giving families plenty of room for games and outdoor activities as well as explore the mature flower beds and established fruit cages.
