OLYMPIA – Port of Olympia’s Swantown Marina will proclaim their 10-year anniversary with ‘Sister Marina’ Shin-Nishinomiya Yacht Harbor Hyogo, Prefecture, Japan, on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023. The ‘Sister Marina’ bond was established in 2013 as part of Hyogo, Prefecture, Japan, and Washington State’s ‘Sister State’ anniversary celebration.
Port Commissioners and staff will welcome Hyogo Prefecture Governor Motohiko Saito, Shin-Nishinomiya Yacht Harbor President, Toshihiro Ohtani, and Manager, Toshihiro Kuroki, at Swantown Marina for a re-acknowledgment proclamation signing ceremony and commemorative lunch.
The ‘Sister Marina’ relationship benefits both marinas, local communities, and both states and nations.
"Through grassroots relationships with our sister port we can expand our understanding of culture, environmental challenges and more," said Rudy Rudolph, Port of Olympia Interim Executive Director. "We appreciate the opportunity to affirm our commitments and have our two teams learn from each other."
During the ceremony, the two groups will reaffirm their proclamations. Former Sen. Karen Fraser, who helped form the sister marina agreements in 2013, will reflect on the importance of international relations.
