COMEDY LAH SAVES PENANGPAC, Online, Thursday 9th July 8.30pm

PenangPAC needs rescuing! On 11th July, Comedy LAH will be collaborating with them for a fundraiser, so the Thursday show on 9th July is a bit of an online preview show.The online preview show on Thursday is free to watch, but if you’re interested in attending the live show on Saturday see the information further on in this newsletter. WHEN NIGHT FALLS, Online, Thursday 9th July 8pm

BIRD, Online, Friday 10th July 8pm

Bird is a visually stunning dance performance presented at George Town Festival 2019. The director and choreographer Pichet Klunchun from Thailand will speak about the production, live on the GTF Facebook page here.

SCREAMING IN SILENCE, Online, Saturday 11th July 2pm

The provocative performance of Screaming in Silence was presented during George Town Festival 2019. The play highlights the issue of child marriage in Afghanistan. An online talk with Parastoo Theater Team writer-director Saleh Sepas and interpreter-producer Amin Kamrani

UNCERTAINTY DISSOLVES EXHIBITION, Museum Galeri Tunku Fauziah, Until 29th August

The gallery at USM is now open to the public again, and you can visit to look at the works of recent alumni of the department of fine arts at the University. Opening hours Monday to Friday 8am-4pm, Saturday 8am-12pm, closed on Sundays. More information on their Facebook page here.

ART LANE PENANG, 127 Beach Street, 9am-7pm Daily

Art Lane Penang, which runs between Beach Street and Victoria Street near ChinaHouse has now re-opened. A beautiful space to walk through, explore and get up close with an amazing array of art. More information on Facebook here.

CHINOISERIE EXHIBITION, Seven Terraces Hotel, Until 31st July

In celebration of George Town Heritage Day, Seven Terraces Hotel on Stewart Lane is Exhibiting its collection of Chinoiserie, daily from 12pm to 6pm.



A long-established gallery run by well-known artist Koay Soo Kau has closed its location on Armenian Street and re-opened in The C E O, 31-12-16, Lebuh Nipah 5, 11950 Bayan Lepas. To view the permanent collection please call Mr Koay first to check he is on site: 016 444 0167.

MANIC STREET TEACHERS, D’Loovi’s, Saturday 11th July 8pm

High school teachers let their hair down, and rock it out on stage. Their preferred genre is Classic Rock, with a dash of heavy metal madness thrown in. Expect covers of songs from Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Metallica!

UNCUT, LIVE FROM THE BLUE ROOM, THEATRE II, Online, Saturday 11th July 8pm

Joe Sidek, former George Town Festival director, speaks to Malaysian film actor and theatre performer Razif Hashim, phenomenal theatre director Jaber Ramezani from Iran, and award-winning Irish theatre-director Gavin Quinn about how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the theatre industry and their experiences during lockdown. GARU SAVES PENANGPAC, penangpac, Saturday 11th July 8.30pm

A comedy variety show hosted by Penang’s very own stand up comedian, Garu Rumon, accompanied by the amazing Raggy Singh and his magic guitar. Join Garu and Raggy as they champion penangpac’s fundraising effort with a night full of laughter and entertainment – stand up and improv comedy, live music and candid conversation. MONIOT TRAIL WALK, Penang Hill, Sunday 12th July 8am-11am

This often-overlooked 3km trail is 600m above sea level and runs between a forest reserve and private land. It is named after the man who surveyed the area, Jules M Moniot. RM 50 per person, meet at the Dataran, Penang Hill. Register 016-4201189. More information on Facebook here

“Armour and Skin” was premiered to critical acclaim at George Town festival 2019. A musical masterpiece by HANDS Percussion Malaysia and Gamelan Yuganada, GTF 2020 is bringing it back online for one week on their Facebook page here and YouTube channel here.

UNCUT, LIVE FROM THE BLUE ROOM, MUSIC II, Online, Sunday 12th July 4pm-5pm

Joe Sidek, former director of the George Town festival, chats with leading luminaries from the world of music about their experiences during lockdown, their future plans and their experiences of George Town. These are a prolific opera singer - educator Ranko Kurano (Japan), leader of the historical Italian chamber orchestra I Musici, Francesco Buccarella, and internationally-acclaimed pianist, Yaron Kohlberg.. FILM - THE HOLE, The Screenery, Monday 13th July 7.30pm-10pm

The Hole (Chinese: 洞; pinyin: dòng; literally: 'hole'), also known as The Last Dance, is a 1998 drama-musical film directed by Tsai Ming-liang. It stars Yang Kuei-mei and Lee Kang-sheng. A man and a woman live in quarantine from a virus whose victims display strange symptoms. The Screenery is in George Town. FILM - CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, The Screenery, Tuesday 14th July 7.30pm-10pm

Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a surprise international success, won over 40 awards, and was nominated for 10 Academy Awards. It has been praised for its story, direction, and cinematography, and for its martial arts sequences. The Screenery is in George Town. Comedians discuss the latest in superhero news.
