SET-Nav Press Release December 2016

Welcome to SET-Nav

SET-Nav - Navigating the Roadmap for Clean, Secure and Efficient Energy Innovation was initiated in April 2016 and is funded by the EU Horizon 2020 programme.

SET-Nav supports strategic decision making in Europe's energy sector, enhancing innovation towards a clean, secure and efficient energy system.

SET-Nav Modeling Workshops

Top-Down Bottom-Up Hybrid Modeling

24-25 November 2016, Trondheim, Norway

The SET-Nav Modeling workshop "Top-Down Bottom-Up Hybrid Modeling" in Trondheim, Norway was successfully implemented at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) on the 24 - 25 of November 2016.

During the first day, the workshop focused on Energy-Economy Models and applied aspects in bottom-up/ top-down modeling, while presenting some practical applications on hybrid modeling.

In the second day, a presentation on hard-linking a regional CGE REMES and Energy Systems Model TIMES was made while area-based decomposition of the energy system model was introduced. At the end of the day, fruitful discussion took place regarding future research directions in hybrid modeling.

Expert Scenario Development Workshop

29 November 2016, Berlin, Germany

DIW Berlin – as part of the SET-Nav network – successfully organized the expert workshop From ‘Known Unknowns’ to ‘Unknown Unknowns’: Uncovering Critical Uncertainties for the World Energy Future, to improve its modeling and forecasting capabilities. The workshop provided a better understanding of external trends, forces and factors that might affect the global energy transition in the coming decades.

The event in a first part uncovered key assumptions, relevant drivers, and relationships characterizing the world energy sector (morning session), based on which several storylines were developed within the afternoon session.
