I'm just going to say what everyone is thinking: no one likes pumpkin pie, right?
Really LIKES it, I mean. I know plenty of people who’ll willingly eat it if it’s there, but have you ever met someone who LOVES pumpkin pie? Someone who craves it in April? Someone who has strong opinions about the best kind of pumpkin pie?
I haven't! And that leads into my next question: what are we even doing?!
(For my non-Americans: American Thanksgiving is next week, and it is tradition to roast a pumpkin, squish it up, combine it with sugar and stuff, plop it into a pie crust, and pretend that’s a dessert that people want to eat.)
We don't have to do this. I know it's traditional, or whatever, but we'll all feel better if we give up bad traditions. I’m calling for an end to whatever weird hold pumpkin pie has on us.
One, it tastes like soap, and not in a good way. (Lavender tastes like soap in a good way, and no, I will not elaborate.) Two, pumpkin isn’t even the best winter squash. Three, if anyone liked pumpkin pie, it would be available in bakeries and whatnot during months that are not November.
And finally: there are SO MANY delicious pies that aren't pumpkin! Apple pie is right there, obviously, as is pecan pie. Feeling feisty this fall? Whip up a key lime pie! No time? Chocolate pudding pie is here for you. Last year I made a bright pink cranberry curd tart and I can't even tell you how popular it made me at Thanksgiving dinner.
You’re free! Resist Corporate Dessert! If we all band together, we can defeat Big Pumpkin and eat a dessert we actually enjoy.
Thanks for letting me speak my truth.
In other news this month: Holiday shorts! (The written kind, not the short pants kind.) I’ve got four audiobooks on Kobo Plus! (Also, all my ebooks.) New releases! Free stuff!
(And yes, I still have way too much toilet paper in my house.)
Striving for a world with better desserts,
Roxie
