I feel fortunate to celebrate many commemorations that would not have existed within recent history. One of those began on August 3, 1990, when President George H. W. Bush declared the month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month, thereafter commonly referred to as Native American Heritage Month.
There has been a movement across this country to recognize the beauty and value of America’s original beauty and heritage. This November and every month, it is a privilege to celebrate the culture and heritage of Native Americans who deeply enrich the quality and character of our nation.
We are able to celebrate Indian Country with its wonderful diversity of American Indian and Alaska Native cultures and peoples while remembering and honoring our veterans. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s observance is going virtual. Let us celebrate AI/AN heritage through the theme "Gifts of Our Ancestors: Celebrating Indigenous Knowledge and Cultures".
