Hi gorgeous,
Someone once told me that the true sign of a friend isn't just that they can comfort you when you are down, but that they can also take pleasure in your JOY. I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know that sometimes being happy (especially these days) can feel so... wrong.
There are always things to be legitimately sad, angry and scared about; there's no doubt about that. But I am inspired by the Black Joy movement, and by dharma leaders like Thích Nhất Hạnh (and his quote up at the top of this newsletter), to try to stay open to the idea that our smiles, our joy, our pleasure–these can be both forms of resistance and ways to connect to the present moment.
So I invite you: maybe, if you feel like smiling, celebrating, or just enjoying yourself–do it and don't feel even bad about it! 🙃
Here are the five things I chose for us this week. ⏬
