Hello!
When I was very little, I sowed parsley seed outside the kitchen window. I am not even sure I was old enough to read the packet, but I remember coming back to check on the seed patch that same day, I was so impatient to see some action. I really haven't changed: I still love scouring my propagator for signs of life, and I get so excited every time there's a flash of green to spot.
That's really my inspiration for the On The Ledge sowalong - since 2018 I've been encouraging listeners to grow houseplants from seed. You might be surprised what you can grow, from Monstera deliciosa to the sensitive plant, from cacti to Clivias.
Everything you need to know you'll find in the various sowalong episodes I've done, which are all here, including cacti and succulents from seed, ferns from spores and more.
All I ask is that if you do try growing houseplants from seed, tag me on your posts with #OTLsowalong, or email me to let me know what you're up to. It's wonderful to see what everyone is growing, share advice and tips, and commiserate when it all goes wrong.
I also want to hear from you if you have specific questions about growing from seed - I'll be doing a questions edition in a few episode.
And if you're on Facebook, join Houseplant Fans of On The Ledge to share your seedlings. It is hands down the most friendly and drama-free houseplant groups you will find.
