Lean: the only game in town for label and packaging suppliers!
Dear ,
By the 1980s, Japanese manufacturers dominated the global car market. They were selling higher quality cars with fewer defects, built using fewer workforce hours, less factory space, lower stock levels and faster lead-times than their US and European rivals.
Companies like Toyota had championed a philosophy called ‘Lean’ – a mindset for optimizing processes, practices and habits, so that everything happening in the business is focused on value creation.
As we argue in this edition of InkConnection, players in the service-driven label and packaging supply chain must adopt Lean, to stay competitive, long-term. Ink logistics is the place to start: getting spot colours ‘right first time’ and managing inks are regarded as the most complex and value-draining processes in the printer’s workflow.
Zero defects, zero downtime, zero delay is the goal. In this edition, we help converters and co-suppliers start that journey, in the footsteps of Japan’s car makers, with an explanation of the Five Principles of Lean, and help with identifying the Eight Wastes in your business.
