State Representative Mike Hill (R) seems to think it’s funny when someone talks about wanting to kill gay people. Which Bible verse is used to justify it is immaterial; the intent is horrific. Was it amusing when a Key West couple attacked gay tourists off Wisteria Island last year? On the anniversary of the Pulse shootings, will he hold a party? Or join one?
It’s no surprise that Hill has been against any attempt to reduce gun violence or abuse. Both of those are used to keep non-white straight cis men oppressed. He has been against any form of anti-discrimination bills - it’s harder for his friends to find loopholes than it is to be outright bigots.
The language is deliberate, three years ago today as I write this someone took that to its logical conclusion in Orlando. As a trans woman, this is personal for me. I hear about the deaths this kind of thinking causes. Apparently, he wants to be the Hill we die on.
As the Legislative Director of Florida NOW, I will work to prevent that from happening, and my feminist NOW sisters and siblings of other genders will be there.
