So. March. In like a lion or a lamb? Reads pretty lamb-ish from this quarter with a hint of wet lion over the next week or ten days. Regardless, middle of the night Sunday is when we spring forward once again into Daylight Saving Time.

I am kicking myself for not remembering to include a reminder of Tuesday morning's lunar eclipse - not to mention the "planetary parade" last Saturday night. We did observe many objects on parade but my stargazing app was seriously unhelpful in identifying just who they all were.

The sky was also clear for the lunar eclipse - at least long enough to get to totality. Five minutes later it was clouded over. It was a lovely sight, if not quite the blood red or copper that was advertised!

Just a few weeks ago I included a link from our friend and neighbor Larry "Newsnose" Walsh of a skier taking advantage of a Pittsburgh snowstorm to ski down Negley Avenue, noting that Larry (a backcountry helicopter skier of some serious repute) would have liked nothing better than to have been doing that himself. How incredible it is to now have to share that we lost Larry this past weekend to the compromised heart that he always knew he was trying to outrun. Or outski. Or outbike. 

I love this picture of him rolling down the Pine Creek Trail on one of the Confloozies Group Trips that were such a big part of the late-aughts amongst our group of townies. 

Larry was a PPFF Legacy Society member, joyfully donating a symbolic $144 in honor of our 20 state forests and 124 state parks. Money COMPLETELY aside, we only wish he had been able to make at least one symbolic gift of $145.

Deb Metzler, board member for the Friends of Greenwood Furnace and, along with her late husband Bill, a long-time volunteer at the park also passed away this last week.

Better news on the health front comes from the Friends of Goddard where treasurer Fran Bires gave everyone a fright (and got himself a helicopter ride) but is now recovering nicely from a lung infection. Speedy recovery, Fran. I will need more eagle pictures!

The next book club selection for April 22 is E.O. Wilson's "Half Earth." Marci suggests that it is a pretty dense one so you might want to get a head start on it. 

It's a terrific pick for April - obviously, you'll remember that Earth Day is April 22.

Got plans for the afternoon of March 14th? If not, why not come out and meet the Friends of Michaux at the Founders Grille at  Penn National Golf Course, 3760 Clubhouse Drive in Fayetteville. 

There'll be food and some silent auction fun and you'll have a chance to meet the Friends and see what their plans are for 2026 and beyond. The event goes from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM and the cost is only $30/person.
