Susan Meiselas has spent her career recording conflicts and human rights abuses from South America, Africa, Kurdistan, and the U.S.
Her point of view has not always been the most popular. In the 1970s, when the policy of the United States was to support brutal dictatorships in Central and South America, Susan gave voice to the insurrectionists and freedom fighters in Nicaragua, Chile, El Salvador, and more. When the U.S. invaded Iraq, she photographed the mass migration of Kurds fleeing the conflict.
Her human rights documentaries range from Girls' Education in Mali to the United States/ Mexico Border, along with editorials on Women in the US Army.
This 8-minute video will provide you with insight into Susan. Her amazing work can be seen on her website.

Beyond Technique
Workshops serve two purposes. One is to expand your vision and introduce you to creative possibilities you may not have considered, regardless of your technical proficiency.
The second is to spend time with other photographers who want to share ideas and create friends and a community.
The success of a workshop can be measured by how well it accomplishes these two goals.

Registration is Closing for this Workshop
In September 2024, we will spend a weekend photographing in the streets of Rome with plastic low-tech film cameras. You will be amazed at how this will change your vision and how much fun you will have.
During the workshop, I will teach you how to develop your film without a darkroom using a Lab-Box daylight film developing tank.
I have reserved 6 rooms at a hotel
within walking distance of the Vatican and our daily meeting location. three of
them are already taken. If you would like to join me, don't wait
to register.
Immediately following the workshop is the Rome Street Photography workshop, where you may use any camera, film, or digital.
The weekend workshop is sponsored by ars-imago International, a premier camera store in Rome and Zurich.

How to Get More Followers on TikTok
TikTok is the place to be on social media.
With a global active user base of 1.5 billion people in 2024, the platform continues to grow both its user base and engagement.
Did you know that users are spending an average of 58 minutes and 24 seconds on TikTok each day? This is 3 minutes and 36 seconds more than last year.
But how do you grow your own, or your brand’s, following on TikTok when there’s so much competition out there?

© David Levingston
David Levingston made this image with a drug store magnifying glass taped to the front of his 4x5 Speed Graphic. He used a Polaroid back with 3000-speed peel-apart Polaroid film.
This was the first exposure he made with this rig. He guessed at the exposure and severely overexposed the image, making it high-key, which pleased him even more.
Don't be afraid to experiment and play. If it doesn't work, nobody gets hurt.

Call for Entry: Broken Forms
Accepted media: Photography, Digital Visual Design, Video
Group Exhibition in Rome city, Italy. November 2024
FREE ENTRY Photographers, visual designers and video artists are invited to submit 1 to 3 works addressing the theme.
Fragments of matter or an idea, broken and interrupted, or inter-ruptured, forms, disintegrated by human behavior or by nature, an action-effect that makes the nature of its composition and its existence even more concrete, manifesting its fragility and its ephemeral utilitarian and/or meaningful function.
Selected works will display form and its loss of functional entity, forming new visual compositions and new meanings.
A further interpretation of this call sees the breaking of the form as the trace of a cause and effect that is a testament to a violent act: an act that represents the urgent need for change.
