HOSTED BY
Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy

Tomorrow (November 12) the public is invited to attend a webinar hosted by staff from the EGLE (Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy) Dam Safety Program who will provide detailed information related to the emergency order to repair Edenville Dam. Engineers from AECOM will also explain the project as well as alternatives that were considered.

This project is possible because of collaboration between FLTF and EGLE, and funding from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

Experts and engineers will share the next steps for repairing the Tobacco Spillway, the timeline for work to begin and its impact on property owners, and answer questions from the public.

Work is expected to begin this fall and be completed in time for the spring thaw when rain and snowmelt are expected to increase water levels.

Snowmobile Guidance

The exposed bottoms of the lakes and rivers in Gladwin and Midland counties continue to be unstable in many areas. Public safety identified significant erosion issues that created crevices that are life-threatening if individuals are snowmobiling in these areas. With winter and snowfall coming, the current ground conditions and water levels indicate that accessing these areas or operating a snowmobile or other vehicle could result in serious injury or death. Moreover, local public safety agencies will have significant challenges reaching and rescuing individuals in a timely manner in the event an individual is injured while in these areas. Please prevent critical injuries and loss of life. Do not put our local first responders at risk. Please stay off the bottoms of the lakes and rivers this winter.
