2021 - 2022 CYA SUMMER of SAILING & BOATING
It’s been so disappointing having to cancel so many of our pre-Christmas events but it's been great to have your support and understanding on the cancellations.
Keelboat Series: Entries are open for the remainder of the season and due to all the uncertainty to date, we can understand skippers being reluctant to pay ahead for events. However with the new traffic light system coming into place soon (hopefully) our season should look a bit more definite.
And you can always enter the Series and pay as you go!! Be good to get your entries in asap.
consisting of 8 events, the first one being the Mahurangi Launch Parade & Log Rally, Anniversary Day Classic Launch Race, Kennedy Bay, Round Rangitoto Launch Race with a female skipper and includes Cake Day, Riverhead Tavern Cruise and an invitation trip up the Waihau River to Paeroa
Ports of Auckland Anniversary Day Monday 31 January 2022:
Boat 2861 built in 1931 in Bremen by Abeking and Rasmussen. She is being restored by Colin Davidson in his shed in Wainakarua, North Otago.
This beauty was brought to NZ in the early 1980s but damaged in transit. The cabin was crushed, ribs broken and more. The heartbroken owner pulled it apart, became overwhelmed by the project and decided to sell. Colin had her in storage in Auckland for about ten years. There's been a lot of work but she is now ready for the top coat on hull and deck.
JONATHAN GRANT ART GALLERY – featuring a fabulous Marine Exhibition
Opens Saturday 20 November and running for two weeks
280 Parnell Road, Auckland
The gallery is open 7 days a week with the following hours and entry is free:
PEST PROOFING YOUR BOAT BEFORE HEADING BACK INTO THE WATER
Please pest proof your boat before you return to the water
Thinking about getting back out on the water? Don’t forget to check for pests that might have got on board during lockdown. Rats and mice could be in your food cupboard, or nibbling at your motor wiring, as well as those marine pests that may have attached to your hull as it has sat in the marina or on your mooring. As Aucklanders and boaties, it is our responsibility to help prevent the spread of pests and support the work that is being done to keep our harbours, islands and special areas pest free.
The organisers of the annual Lake Rotoiti parade warmly invite CYA members to attend their 25th celebration parade in 2022.
They are keen to help keep our members' costs down, so alongside a very low token entry fee and discounted optional buffet dinner on the Friday night, they have arranged a discounted rate at the Lakeside 4 star hotel (which has its own marina). This will be on a first come, first served basis, as there is a limited amount of trailer parking and jetty spaces.
For members who might want to join us, if they simply register an interest in coming by phone or email in the next few weeks, we can give them more detailed information and in due course an entry form for the parade day.
We would love to hear what you are doing in in the Bay of Islands, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and absolutely anywhere there is a classic boat in the water!
Your contributions and ideas would be so welcome - and please do let us know if you are restoring a vessel, planning an event or would just like to share a classic experience with us.
We LOVE to hear from you and share your story.
Also, if you've got good quality photos of vessels you think would be of interest to Sheerlines readers, please send a .jpg, .tif or .png, with details, to Robyn firstname.lastname@example.org. I don't have many launches or classic dinghies.
