Today's Bible Study Lesson
“Salvation is Sealed”
Aim: Identify the connections between the Suffering Servant in Isaiah 52:13-53:12 and the resurrected Christ in Luke 24, Affirm the joy of knowing the Suffering Servant is the resurrected Jesus Christ, and Share the story of the Suffering Servant, who is the resurrected Jesus Christ.
Background: Isaiah 52:13-53:12; Luke 24:1-35
Bible Lesson: Luke 24:13-16, 22-35
Memory Verses:
“And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. Luke 24:31 KJV
Some Highlights:
- By the time of our Bible Lesson today, Jesus had been arrested, tortured, illegally convicted, sentenced to death, crucified on the cross, and buried in a borrowed tomb. It had been three days since the Crucifixion. Jesus’ followers and his disciples were in despair and disappointed for they had expected Jesus to victoriously overthrow the Roman government. Instead Jesus had been crucified and buried.
- Our lesson opens with two of Jesus’ followers (Cleopas and an unnamed man) walking and discussing the recent events in Jerusalem. They were going to Emmaus, a village about seven miles from Jerusalem. As they walked, suddenly Jesus joins them; however, God prevents them from recognizing him. Jesus inquires as to what they are discussing. Cleopas asks Jesus whether he is the only one who is not aware of the recent events in Jerusalem? He shares the developments of Jesus being arrested, tortured, illegally convicted and sentenced to death, crucified and buried. It was now three days later, some women went to the tomb where Jesus was buried to anoint his body and found the huge stone rolled away and his body missing. The women also reported seeing two angels who had told them that Jesus was alive, He had risen from the dead! However, the report of the women had not initially been believed until two of Jesus’ disciples ran to the tomb and confirmed that it was empty, Jesus’ body was not there. At this point, all that was known was that Jesus’ body was gone.
- After seeing and hearing their despair, Jesus declares that their perspective is foolish and demonstrated their lack of understanding of the Scriptures. During this period, the Law, the Prophets and some of the Writings were the only portions of our modern day Bible available to them. As they continued to walk, Jesus reviewed the portions of the Scripture that described His suffering and His resurrection which showed that the recent events in Jerusalem were the fulfillment of prophesy regarding the Messiah.
- As the men arrived at their destination, Jesus acted as if he were going further, but they insisted that he stay with them because it was late. Jesus accepted their invitation. When they sat down to eat, Jesus assumed the role of host. He blessed the bread and broke it to give to them and suddenly their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus. And in an instance Jesus disappeared.
- The men reflected on their walk with Jesus and how their hearts burned within as he explained the Scripture along the way. Within that same hour, even though it was late, they set out on a return trip of seven miles back to Jerusalem.
- In Jerusalem, they found the eleven disciples, for Judas had betrayed Jesus and met his destiny with death. The disciples and followers of Jesus were rejoicing and were convinced that Jesus had really risen from the dead. Jesus had appeared to Peter (I Corinthians 15:5). The two followers from Emmaus shared their experience with Jesus on their road from Jerusalem to Emmaus and how they recognized Jesus at the blessing and breaking of bread with him.
- Jesus’ followers and his disciples had to see Jesus for themselves to believe that he had risen from the dead. We who believe in the Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus must share our experience with Jesus with others for their conversion and their edification!
Take Aways:
- The Bible explains that Jesus died on the cross for our sins to provide our access to Eternal Life and to complete God’s Plan for Our Salvation!
- Jesus was the first fruit of Resurrection from the dead and if we believe in Jesus’ Death, Burial, and Resurrection, we too will be raised from the dead into Eternal Life!
- We must trust God for the solutions to our problems. God is all knowing (Omniscient), all powerful (Omnipotent), all places at one time (Omnipresent). Praise the Lord!
Bible Verses to Keep in Mind:
“For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23 KJV
“O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory? The sting of death [is] sin; and the strength of sin [is] the law. But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 KJV
“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Matthew 28:6 KJV
“And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.” Mark 16:6 KJV
“He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,” Luke 24:6 KJV
“But now is Christ risen from the dead, [and] become the firstfruits of them that slept.” 1 Corinthians 15:20 KJV

Tennessee State University (TSU) and Meharry Medical College, two historically Black academic institutions in Nashville, today announced a new partnership focused on establishing a pipeline of African-American doctors and dentists who will provide essential care to underserved communities. The historic agreement will recruit, select and support the medical education of a cadre of African American students who are interested in becoming physicians or dentists. The overriding goal is to increase the number of African American trained health care providers who will stay and work in minority communities that have the greatest burden of health care needs. The accelerated program seeks to reduce the amount of time it takes students to enter medical school. The traditional four-year Bachelor of Science degree will become a three-year program—students will spend three years pre-med at TSU before going on to study medicine or dentistry at Meharry. The result is total completion in seven years, instead of the customary eight years. Students participating in the pathways program will be those with the highest academic preparation and quality. Requirements for admission will be based on a 3.5 grade point average, a score of 1300 on the SAT (two components) or a 29 on the ACT. Mentoring, tutoring and coaching will be crosscutting elements of the program, as will be career and professional guidance for all students involved. 587 New COVID-19 Cases & 20 Deaths Reported in Kentucky for
April 3, 2021
(33 New Cases in Fayette County)
As millions receive the COVID-19 vaccines, it is still important and necessary to continue to practice the CDC and Kentucky Governor's Guidance and Mandates. The distribution and administration of the vaccines to millions of people continues as a high priority for the Biden Administration with July 4th as a milestone objective for families whose members have been fully vaccinated to have small celebration gatherings. Meanwhile we must stay steadfast, vigilant and disciplined in the adherence of safe practices as provided by the CDC and the Kentucky Governor's Health advice in light of the continued spread of the virus. Click CDC VACCINE INFORMATION for some information from the CDC on the COVID-19 vaccines.
- Get a flu vaccination as soon as possible but getting it any time in the flu season is beneficial. VaccineFinderexternal icon to find out where to get vaccinated near you.
- Avoid close contact with those who are sick, maintain at least 6 feet from others who are not from your household,
- Wear face masks when in public (Mandatory in Kentucky and is being extended on a 30 day basis until the spread is under control),
- Wash your hands frequently,
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and leave home only when absolutely necessary.
