On the 12 of August 1912, members of the community of Germiston held a meeting to establish an Organisation that would serve the interests of the community and protect vulnerable children and their families.
109 years later, Child Welfare Germiston proudly still fulfils the initial vision and mission of the Organisation. The core of our services have not changed. Poverty, vulnerability and huge socio-economic challenges remain challenges face by our community. The Organisation has however grown in leaps and bounds, both in size and professionalism. Initially served by volunteers, the community are now served by qualified and trained Social Workers and Social Auxiliary workers along with support staff needed to provide our services on different levels.
Our birthday month has been a month filled with surprise donations, support from both corporate and individual community members who have knowingly and unknowingly celebrating our birthday month along with us.
The month of August saw Johnson Matthey SA sponsoring 100 food parcels which could be handed out to vulnerable families and their children, addressing their most basic need for nutrition. THANK YOU ……
Corporate financial investment in the services we render, is one strategy to grow our services and improve our impact through growing our visibility, creating awareness and securing support. Thank you to each corporate who believes in our services and the difference it makes. A special shout out to Gundle Plastics Group , Johnson Matthey SA and NGK Spark Plugs for making a commitment to our beneficiaries.
Thank you to each individual who has invested time, skills, donated clothes, office furniture, groceries or pre-loved 2nd hand goods towards our Organisation. We can assure you that each contribution makes a difference and contributes towards supporting our families and increasing our sustainability in one way or another.
To all the volunteer community members who have served on our Board of Management over the past 109 years …… THANK YOU for believing in the work that we do, for your oversight and governance and for ensuring that we fulfil our commitment towards the community and Society as a whole. Each Board Member is part of our history and fulfilled / fulfils an important role in the legacy we create through the years gone by and the years to come.
In the famous words of Nelson Mandela : “ History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of children”
