Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
The federal interagency Education Committee of the White House Council on Native American Affairs (WHCNAA) is requesting input from Tribal Nations on its 10-year National Plan on Native Language Revitalization (National Plan). Specifically, the WHCNAA Education Committee is seeking Tribal input on how the federal government can work with Tribal Nations, Tribal and non-profit organizations, states, schools, higher education institutions, and the private sector to raise awareness about the importance of Native languages. This includes how the National Plan can support the integration of Native language revitalization into school curriculum, immersive learning, early and adult education, and federal and state policies.
Details regarding these upcoming Tribal consultations are as follows—
Date/Time: Monday, September 18, 2023 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm
Date/Time: Wednesday, September 20, 2023 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm ET
Date/Time: Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm ET
Date/Time: Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm ET

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has also compiled a Literature Review on Native Language Revitalization, which can be viewed by clicking here. Comments on the National Plan are due by 11:59pm ET on Friday, September 29, 2023
