Xenophobia

Politicians

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, January 9
Gigi Maglakelidze, Alliance of Patriots: “Given the challenges facing our country, our economic development, strategic ports and everything will be left behind against the background of a migration wave threatening our country amid the developments in Iran-the United States and the Middle East. You all probably walk in the city, in its streets and see that Tbilisi no longer looks like Tbilisi due to the migration wave; serious steps need to be taken; probably, visa regimes should be introduced with Iran and other countries… price rise and catastrophic growth of unemployment in the country, as well as other economic hardships are directly linked with this migration wave and economic processes ongoing in the country.”

Alia, January 20-26
Shalva Natelashvili, Labor Party: “We are facing a huge threat of becoming extinct as the nation, because we will not be able to withstand the attack of 85-million Iranian ethnos. And this is spearheaded by the country’s leadership. Today, we raised this issue and called on the U.S. Department of State to ensure that these persons fall under the new wave of Iranian sanctions enforced recently. I think, it is alarming that 134 thousand real properties were registered in recent years in the names of Iranian citizens. Just Iranization was our problem long ago, along with the issue of our survival. Giorgi Saakadze has probably turned in his grave after seeing that Iranization is underway with the support of Georgians, and Shahs and Sultans have nothing to do with it.”

Asaval-Dasavali, January 13-19
Elizbar Javelidze, People’s Assembly: “Abolish visa rules with Iran and Islamic countries of Asia and Africa! If [Georgia’s ex-President Mikheil] Saakashvili granted [Georgian] citizenship to about 30,000 Turks and filled Adjara with Turks, under this government, tens of thousands of Iranians, Iraqis or Syrians settled down in Tbilisi! Construction companies that have built hundreds of residential buildings for aliens, are the same sworn enemies for Georgian people, as banks, casinos and totalizators!”

Media

Sakinform, January 6
Arno Khidirbegishvili, editor-in-chief of Sakinform: “The Iranians staying in Georgia, who were arriving in Georgia not only for educational and business purposes, but also for creating a stronghold for their compatriots in case of war with the United States that was anticipated on a daily basis over the past 10 years... Iranian refugees will kill Georgian men and rape Georgian women and children, while terrorists, who will try to pass themselves off as refugees, will carry out terrorist acts in Tbilisi, together with Pankisi residents, and capture the Lugar Lab in order to use especially dangerous virus strains kept there against the Americans throughout the world!”

Georgia and World, January 22
Beso Barbakadze, journalist: “When the Chinese first started arriving in Georgia, they were astonished as they could not even imagine that there would be a country, where so many homeless animals used in their favorite dishes would be walking in the streets. And they started to attack dogs. Locals also “benefited” by it. They used to catch stray dogs and sell them to the Chinese. Later, the Chinese refused to buy stray dogs as there were no documents about their health.”

Georgia and World, January 15
Dimitri Lortkipanidze, Primakov Georgian-Russian Public Center: “It is alarming when Iranian citizens are arriving in the country without any control, buying lands, houses, apartments and saying that they want to settle down on the territory once lost by Iran. By the way, in one of his speeches in February 2018, President Hassan Rouhani criticized the Qajar dynasty and noted that due to their treacherous policy, Russia seized Georgia from Iran. It means that they have territorial claims for Georgia and the imperialistic attitude, which had existed for centuries, still persists. Naturally, the question arises: what political strategy does the Georgian government have to counter this approach? What do we answer, at least, at a diplomatic level, when we hear such hostile, colonial rhetoric? They are actually telling us that we are not the state.”

Asaval-Dasavali, January 20-26
Nikoloz Mzhavanadze, Rights Defenders’ Union: “Visa-free regime with Iran should be abolished. The country is already full of Iranians. They have bought tens of thousands of apartments. The Sport Palace and the Tbilisi Concert Hall are packed out by them so much that even a needle cannot be dropped in.”
Akhali Taoba

Asaval-Dasavali, January 27 – February 2
Sandro Bregadze, Georgian March: “Invasion of criminals began under Saakashvili’s regime, when this hater of Georgians granted Georgian citizenship to a lot of foreigners and allotted Georgian lands to Indians, Iranians, Chinese and other aliens… Following the developments in Iran, thousands of people are arriving in Georgia from this country and other countries too and only 15-20 percent returns. It is a deliberate policy aimed at using all means at disposal to expel Georgians from their homeland and settle down aliens here. In fact, it is occupation of Georgia by aliens that will entail much disastrous consequences than Russian occupation…”

Asaval-Dasavali, January 27 – February 2
Davit Zirakishvili, chairman of the League for Protecting Article 5 of the Constitution: “Port construction will cause demographic catastrophe in Samegrelo. Samegrelo will appear in the same situation as Kharagauli district is today, where Georgians arrive as guests and where Chinese rule everything. The dogs are no longer barking in Kharagauli. The Chinese have eaten them.”

Turkophobia

Media

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, January 11
Gia Areshidze, host: “By the way, it should be noted here that Iran, like Turkey, has territorial claims against Georgia. Last year Khomeini (?) said that, Khomenei (?), excluse me, said that Georgia belonged to us 200 years ago and now it is torn away from its heart, homeland, it is torn away from Iran, and so on. Thus, like Turkey has its territorial claims in Adjara under the Treaty of Kars, Iran has such claims against entire Georgia.”

Civil society organizations

Asaval-Dasavali, January 13 – 19
Tamaz Bakuridze, For Our Rights: “There is a high probability that one day Turkey will take a glance at ancient Georgian territories and will no longer be satisfied what it has already grabbed. Anyway, Turkey is gradually preparing the ground for it, waiting for an appropriate moment when it will invade Adjara without weapons, peacefully. Unfortunately, Turkey is doing it with the help of treacherous Georgians… The National Movement sold the lands held by Aslan Abashidze [former Adjarian leader] to the Turks and in exchange, the latter painted and “built” Batumi for themselves.”

Islamophobia

Media

Sakinform, January 6
Arno Khidirbegishvili, editor-in-chief of Sakinform: “Special attention should be paid to those, who can open the door to the enemy from inside… 2. Residents of Pankisi Gorge. Over the past years, an old base of North Caucasian terrorists served as a recruitment station, providing the Islamic State with mercenaries and famous field commanders. Pankisi-based Islamists led by Malkhaz Machalikashvili, who have been offended by the Georgian government that carries out anti-terrorist operations in Pankisi and builds hydro power plants, will gladly drown entire Georgia in the blood as a sign of revenge and then justify themselves by “Jihad.” As a result, they will receive huge transfers from international terrorist organizations, because they are not used to earning money through peaceful labor.” Facebook

Armenophobia

Media

Asaval-Dasavali, January 20 – 26
Dito Chubinidze, journalist: “Joking aside, but it was so clearly stated about the Armenian origin of Mikheil Mishustin that I got afraid – if Sergey Kalantarov-Lavrov, Mishutkin and Mishustin join their forces against Georgia, then it is less likely that we will survive and Iberia’s shining will be left aside! Like Georgians and Armenians were fighting in the Byzantine Empire to gain influences, today they are similarly fighting in the Kremlin and we should admit that the Armenians have surpassed us in this struggle…”

Homophobia

Politicians

Obieqtivi, Akhali Ambebi – Mtavari, January 10
Vazha Otarashvili, Alliance of Patriots: “This person [archpriest Giorgi Mamaladze] himself is a homosexual and he himself is involved in Sodom and Gomorrah sin, when he spreads such dirtiness against our holy and wise Patriarch… We should protect our mother church, we should protect it from such dirty persons, like homosexual Mamaladze, like homosexual pseudo-Petre [Tsaava].”

Media

Asaval-Dasavali, January 20-26
Giorgi Gigauri, journalist: “Our Sorosist-Liberast televisions do not even utter a word about the fact that shortly before the Near Year, on December 28, through President Trump’s efforts, the United States made a truly historical decision: the Department of Internal Affairs in the Trump administration removed from its anti-discrimination program the term “sexual orientation” legalized during Obama’s tenure! The Government of Georgia, just follow the historical example of your strategic partner, the United States and its President, Donald Trump and remove during the very first parliamentary session of 2020 the term “sexual orientation” from “the anti-discrimination law” imposed by Soros!”

Georgia and World, January 29
Darejan Andriadze, author: “What particular diseases have affected Georgians, who are imitating foreigners so much that they have even forgotten who their ancestors were. They even changed their birth names (Nikoloz became Nikol, Natalia – Natuka, Ana – Anka, Mariami – Mashka) and now turned to their surnames. There are so many guys with ponytails in rainbow colors and girls with shaved heads that it is obvious, this disease needs serious, “complex” treatment. As Vazha-Pshavela would say, “it means that something bad is going to happen.”

Civil society organizations

Asaval-Dasavali, January 27 – February 2
Nikoloz Mzhavanadze, Rights Defenders’ Union: “The National sect [referring to the United National Movement] and Saakashvili have depraved Gubaz Sanikidze, Levan Sanikidze’s son, so much that I think, together with Davit Akubardia, he will soon participate in gay pride parade!”

Society

Asaval-Dasavali, January 27 – February 2
Zurab Gviniashvili, citizen: “… Ravaging of homosexuals should be banned in Georgia once and forever! This country is not the place where [Public Defender Nino] Lomjaria and [film director] Akin’s gay band should be ravaging; it is our and our children’s homeland!”

Anti-Western sentiments

Politicians

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, January 24
Davit Tarkhan-Mouravi, Alliance of Patriots: “Is Bokeria Georgian? Does Bokeria believe in God? This man is not Georgian by belief! Is Bokeria Georgian by the style of his thinking? Or is Saakashvili Georgian? What does the style of Georgian thinking mean? Does it mean propagandizing and protecting pederasty, staging gay revolutions? Of course, it does not … These people are not Georgian people… They decided to become Americans… By the way, this Cramer, Mramer, who are they? They also are supporters of homosexuality, pseudo something, so-called liberalism. Bokeria is also the same, they are not Georgian people! They do not like anything Georgian… These people are trying to degrade our country and this NDI and IRI are just their supporters… These forces have united to destruct Georgian consciousness, thinking and they have achieved a huge success. It is their great success that generations have grown up without knowing or having any interest about their grandparents. They are not interested in their family names.”

Georgia and World, January 29
Levan Chachua, Georgian Idea: “It is not new for anyone that the Parliament and the entire government are still pursuing the policy dictated from outside that is disastrous and destructive for our country. The faith and ideology of the incumbent government, as well as the previous regime, is completely built on anti-state “formula” – what the West will say is what matters most to them. Now, a certain true “liberal” will come out and start joking – who compels us?! Compulsion does not occur with fire and sword, but if we do not adopt legislative amendments dictated by them – gay pride parades, sale of lands to foreign nationals, accepting migrants - they will tell us not to expect their support any longer. Is not it pressure and compulsion? Is not it terror and intimidation, when the society “bullied” by Russia is openly told that in case of resistance, they will leave us alone face to face with Russian aggression.”

Media

Georgia and World, January 29
Darejan Andriadze, author: “It has been long time that through the efforts of “throne seekers,” foreign organizations or foreign “well-wishers” caring for our young people have appeared, who teach our children how to respect homosexuals, bisexuals, gays… in one word, everyone except heterosexuals, saying that the mankind has developed so much that it is high time to think about changing our sexual orientation and encourage same-sex marriage… Otherwise, we will again stay in this darkness and will never achieve any progress or real democracy; neither NATO, nor the European Union will accept us… if in our “friendly” countries, number of heterosexual upper grade students is decreasing from year to year and simultaneously, number of transgender, homosexual and bisexual people is increasing, should we lag behind this “progress”? It has already become our tradition to imitate others. Joking aside, in the opinion of psychologists, number of students considering themselves to be representatives of LGBT community has increased in the United States recently. It is the result of a universal propaganda, according to which a child is free to choose a gender and sexual orientation.”

Alia, January 13-19
Nana Sulava, journalist: “My respondent and others like him had an opportunity to dance, because the industry worked in Georgia; but now they would have had to play the role of a pederast in the film financed by Sweden, like Levan Gelbakhiani, the character of that shameful film [And Then We Danced]… No matter how this blue-turned Europe will award them, spiritually they are already destroyed.”

Clerics

Georgia and World, January 15
Giorgi Razmadze, cleric: “When the Parliament was adopting the so called anti-discrimination law against the will of the majority of society, I spoke with Eka Beselia, then member of the parliamentary majority, and she told me that it was an absolutely harmless law, which would not entail other, more unacceptable legislative amendments. Shortly afterwards, upon instructions of the United Nations Children’s Fund, they adopted the law named “The Code on the Rights of the Child,” which actually deprived parents of all rights… By the way, upon instructions of the European Union, the anti-discrimination law was adopted in Montenegro several weeks ago.”

Society

Obieqtivi, Gamis Studia, January 18
Viewer: “I just heard on TV Pirveli that transgender women were detained and they were protesting against it…. This abomination what is happening in the center of the city, this outrage… I do not know how to look at them, they are neither women, nor men and we are protecting them, the United States is protecting them; it is a shame, it is our shame, the shame of our ancestors; where are we going, in which direction, what Europe?”
