Summer comes to a close in the cannery...

End-of-Summer Saturday Snippet

It’s interesting how easy it is to avoid ads nowadays. I stream my TV so I only need to endure commercials when I’m watching something directly from a network's app. Even then, I usually get so frustrated I decide to wait for it to come to Netflix or wherever, then binge the whole season.

Without a paid subscription, you can’t avoid the ads on YouTube nowadays, at least the first four seconds of them. For some reason, women announcing “I just made my own website with Wix!” annoys me to no end. What I hear is, “I thought I couldn't possibly do anything for myself with this useless girl-brain, but whee, look what I did!”

I know, I’m probably reading way too much into it. Like Victor Bayne does in the new flash fic…Back to School.

I’m told there’s a way on the FPMP-issued smartphone to tailor my alerts so that I know who’s dinging me. That level of customization is way beyond my ability. Plus, if it were up to me, I’d set the thing so it didn’t make any sounds at all…and then I’d lock it in my trunk for good measure. Unfortunately, my job requires me to be reachable by a select few people.  That meant I had to deal with the occasional ding.

The cannery stays pretty cool in the summer, at least downstairs, but it was a humid Chicago August where you'd be lucky not to melt your shoes walking across the blacktop. I was struggling fruitlessly with a particularly stubborn ice cube tray when the ding came.

Other Update Stuff

Remember Tomorrow - The Mnevermind Trilogy Collection will be available in ebook on September 15, and in audio around that time, too. Right now I don't plan to release the collection in paperback since the size would make it an ungainly brick. But the individual trilogy stories will continue to be available in ebook, audio and paperback. If you missed the cover reveal, check it out here. The ebook is now up for preorder.

On October 16, the diabolical collection Devil Take Me will hit the shelves. I can’t wait to read the other stories in this project. You’ll find novellas from Rhys Ford, TA Moore, Ginn Hale, Jordan L. Hawk, CS Poe, and of course, me. (Preorder Devil Take Me here)

Also in October, I plan a re-release of one of my older standalone post-apocalyptic stories, Zero Hour, in ebook and paperback.

From October 18-21 I’ll be at GRL, the Gay Rom Lit Retreat, in Portsmouth, VA. I'll be in touch with a link to preorder paperbacks from me in the next JCP Monthly News in two weeks.

And I’m anticipating PsyCop 10 will be fit for public consumption by the end of the year.
