Dear Reader

October has been a fruitful month for the EaP CSF. We have contributed to numerous projects simultaneously and are pleased to share with you the major outcomes. More than 200 member organisations participated in the EaP CSF structured consultation – the highest participation turnout ever. EaP CSF representatives passed civil society messages during several panel meetings that took place in Brussels and in the EaP region. On top of that, the preparations for the Annual Assembly are in full swing. Scroll down to see all the outcomes and do not forget to follow us on Social Media.

EaP CSF Structured Consultation

The Forum’s online survey for the Structured Consultation is by now closed. More than 200 member organisations shared their thoughts on the future of the Eastern Partnership policy after 2020. The joint input of the Forum has been submitted to the official Structured consultation of DG NEAR. View the results here.

Annual Assembly 2019

Only 33 days remain until we kick off the 11th Annual Assembly of the EaP CSF in Brussels. We have been busily shaping the agenda of this annual event. Discover here who will attend the assembly this year and make sure to follow our hashtag (#AA2019).

EaP CSF for advocacy
Panel on Education, Culture and Youth

Sintija Bernava (EU Coordinator Working Group 4, “Donum Animus”, Latvia) and Alla Kozhyna (“Institute of Public Strategies”, Ukraine) represented EaP CSF during the second EaP Panel on Education, Culture and Youth. They pushed for more collaboration between the EaP and EU in ensuring a good quality of education and jobs for young people. Read more here.

Conference on Rule of Law


Boris Navasardian (Yerevan Press Club) and Ziya Guliyev (CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation) represented the Forum at the Rule of Law Conference, held in Helsinki under Finland's Presidency of the Council of the EU. Our experts were advocating for more joint responses between the EU and EaP on the current challenges towards Rule of Law, Human Rights and democratic institutions. Read more here.

Energy Panel in Vilnius

EaP CSF contributed to the discussions at the 4th EaP Panel on Energy. Matúš Mišík (Slovak Foreign Policy Association) and Igor Stukalenko (Centre for Global Studies “Strategy XXI”, Ukraine)  provided recommendations and raised issues, relevant to the development of strategies, opportunities and challenges in the area of renewable energy development in Eastern Partner Countries. CSDP Workshop in Tbilisi

Elena Mârzac (Information and Documentation Center on NATO in Moldova) represented the Forum during workshop on Strategic Communication in Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). A coordinated policy and comprehensive messaging on European integration, including CSDP is needed according to EaP CSF experts.  Read more here.

Supporting projects of civil society

The EaP CSF Re-granting scheme (Financial Support to third parties – FSTP) supports projects of civil society organisations from EaP countries and the EU member states, which have a regional dimension and facilitate the work of one of the five thematic Working Groups of the Forum. In the course of 2019, EaP CSF is providing support to 13 projects. Scroll down to see the progress of each project and find out more on our renewed Re-granting page.

Ecosystem Approach to Hydropower

The National Ecological Centre of Ukraine and their project partners conducted a project on the development of the hydropower sector in the Eastern Partnership. In the course of three workshops, which happened in Chișinău, Yerevan and Baku this summer, the participants learned how to implement European requirements on hydropower development. You can download a cross-country policy paper on the Ecosystem approach to hydropower on our website.

Development of SME strategies


In Azerbaijan, the Social Strategic Researches and Analytical Investigations Public Union successfully concluded a project on SME strategy development. Partners from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Latvia had come together to seek best strategies and measures targeted towards SME development in regions. Facilitating effective visa liberalization in GE, MD and AM

In a project by the Georgian Institute of Politics, EaP civil society insiders addressed visa liberalization dialogue, mobility, as well as regular and irregular migration in Georgia, Armenia and Moldova. The project partners published three policy papers and a joint compendium. Read and download all of them here.

Towards implementing the Istanbul Convention

Six experts from the EaP region presented this summer the situation of gender-based violence and domestic violence in their countries. The civil society experts called for a speedy implementation and/or ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul convention).
