Hello from The Garden of England

Hi,

When you signed up to my mailing list, I did say that I wasn't planning to send emails all that regularly and I am sticking to that promise. That said, it's been a while so I thought it was about time I reached out.  I saw something the other day that referenced that old job interview question - "Where do you see yourself in five years time?" Everyone answering that one back in 2015 got it very wrong! Anyway,  I hope you're all OK. Oh, and if you want to skip to the bit about discovering new books and authors, it's a bit further down.

I'd love to know what you'd like to see in these emails. You can hit reply to tell me. I don't want these emails to be all about selling my books so I'm hoping to fill them with snippets about me, what I'm working on, books I've read or am reading (see current read links below), bits of inspiration and even the weather. Talking about the weather is a national sport over here!

Currently 16C or 61F  |  Sunny  |  Light wind from ENE

(At time of writing)

How is it where you are?

So why The Garden of England? The county of Kent has been known by this name for hundreds of years. The population is somewhere in the region of 1.5 million and we are blessed with rolling hills, historic buildings (including Canterbury Cathedral) and not forgetting the famous white cliffs of Dover. Cue Dame Vera Lynn - "There'll be bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover ..."

You can see more about the county of Kent here.

The town where I was born and raised is called Herne Bay. I'll chat more about that another time. It also features briefly in Helix Genesis.

Pause for Inspiration

A little something for readers and writers.

Arnold Lobel

“Books to the ceiling, Books to the sky, My pile of books is a mile high. How I love them! How I need them! I’ll have a long beard by the time I read them.”

Virginia Woolf

“Every secret of a writer’s soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind, is written large in his works.”

Currently working on....

I am currently making the finishing touches to my next novel Life Untenable. I've submitted the final draft to my typesetter who will be preparing the file for the paperback version and the cover. I'll do a "Cover Reveal" email as soon as it's finished. I'm really excited about the design.

I finished formatting the eBook version yesterday - one advantage of having worked in IT for more than 20 years. Paperback typesetting, however, is best left to a pro. My goal is to have the eBook out on Amazon sometime in June with the paperback following in July. Watch this space.

Question Time (No not the dull BBC TV Programme)

Feel free to hit reply and ask me a question. I'll include a question with each newsletter just to get us started. Here goes:

Q: What's your favourite genre and author, Chris?

A: That's a nice easy one, thanks. Favourite genre: Psychological and action thrillers. Favourite author: At the moment I am on a Harlan Coben binge. I try to mix things up a little, but keep coming back to him. I'm also about halfway through Lee Child's Jack Reacher catalogue. Once I find an author I like, I tend to read everything they've written.

How about you? Favourite genre and author?

Looking for something new to read?

I use various websites to promote my books. If you're looking for a new book or author these are great places to look. The following are not affiliate links - there's nothing in it for me.

Bargain Booksy: Lots of choice and prices from $0.99 up to $5.

Your New Books: Free books. All they ask in return is that you leave a review. As the saying goes "Feed an author - leave a review."

That's it. Until next time. Stay safe. All the best.

Chris.
