RADAR GIRLS RELEASES July 27, 2021

Writing and releasing a book is always such a wild ride. I spend months daydreaming about ideas and plot, dive head first into research, and then sequester myself away while I write the first draft of many. Even though I often feel like the book is awful, lament over the sagging middle, and wonder how on earth I’m going to end it, I really love the process. There is NOTHING I would rather be doing than writing novels. I'm not going to lie, when I saw the cover for the first time, I cried.

Head on over to SheReads.com on December 7 for an exclusive look at the new cover.

Radar Girls is now available for pre-order and I hope that if you enjoyed my other books, you will consider pre-ordering.

ABOUT THE BOOK

An extraordinary story about the Women’s Air Raid Defense, where an unlikely recruit and her sisters-in-arms forge their place in history.

Daisy Wilder prefers the company of horses to people, bare feet and saltwater to high heels and society parties. Then, in the dizzying aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Daisy enlists in a top-secret program, replacing male soldiers in a war zone for the first time. Under fear of imminent invasion, the WARDs guide pilots into blacked-out air strips and track unidentified planes across Pacific skies.

But not everyone thinks the women are up to the job, and the new recruits must rise above their differences and work side-by-side despite the resistance and heartache they meet along the way. With America’s future on the line, Daisy is determined to prove herself worthy. And with the man she’s falling for out on the front lines, she cannot fail. From radar towers on remote mountaintops to flooded bomb shelters, she’ll need her new team when the stakes are highest. Because the most important battles are fought—and won—together.

This inspiring and uplifting tale of pioneering, unsung heroines vividly transports the reader to wartime Hawaii, where one woman’s call to duty leads her to find courage, strength and sisterhood.

As a reader, I love signed books. As an author, I love signing books. I will be signing books on Hawaii Island at Kona Bay Books and Kona Stories (what they have in stock while I’m there), as well as at da Shop: Books + Curiosities in Honolulu (da Shop is doing personalized signings). If you’d like to give any of my books (Island of Sweet Pies and Soldiers, The Lieutenant’s Nurse, or Red Sky Over Hawaii) as gifts, I hope you will consider buying/ordering from these local stores.

As you all know, 2020 has been particularly tough on small businesses. Independently-owned bookstores are essential to our communities, and now more than ever they need your help. Can you imagine a world without bookstores? I can’t. Which is why I’m giving books as Christmas gifts to every person on my list.

3 FAVORITE THINGS

I was sad not to be able to travel this year. Living in Hawaii, I often long for cold and mountainous places with alpine lakes and snowy peaks. I know I wasn't alone, as I heard from so many friends and readers that they missed their Hawaii trip this summer. Aside from sharing my books and offering a little armchair travel, here are a few of my local faves:

Rare Hawaiian Honey

If you’ve read Red Sky Over Hawaii, you know that I love honey. We have a whole lot of happy honey bees here in Hawaii, and I’ve been upping my honey consumption (is it possible to overdose on honey?) this year due to its healing nature. It doesn’t matter to me what kind it is–’ōhia lehua, kiawe, Christmas berry (aka wilelaike)–I love it all. And itʻs organic!

The Cove Collection

A group of four very creative women came together in 2018 to curate a special boutique of hand crafted jewelry, apothecary, art, and home goods located in the heart of the North Shore of Oahu at Shark's Cove.

I never walk out of this store empty handed!

Big Island Coffee Roasters

Big Island Coffee Roasters mills their coffee in small batches and it's roasted to order. I love their way of doing business, and I love the land where they grow their coffee–on the slopes of cloud collecting volcanoes where the smell of fresh coffee is always in the air.

RECENT READS

Lately, I've been in the mood for light and upbeat stories that are able to hold my attention. These three books fit the bill perfectly and I thoroughly enjoyed each one.

Fun, steamy, hard to put down

Heartfelt, sexy, dogs

Hilarious, quirky, unique

MY 12 BOOKS OF CHRISTMAS

To help myself get in the spirit, I’ve compiled a list of 12 Christmas themed books that I want to read & and also plan on giving away as gifts. It's an eclectic mix, so there should be at least one book on here to fit your taste. Why not spread some holiday cheer the good old fashioned way? (See full descriptions)
