The General Assembly of ASSITEJ
and the 20th ASSITEJ World Congress

Dear members of ASSITEJ,

The ASSITEJ EC has been monitoring developments of the impact of COVID-19 at local and global levels, following carefully the information provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and by the various governments of our members with relation to our planning of the 20th ASSITEJ World Congress and the MIRAI Performing Arts Festival, planned for Tokyo 14-24 May. We have met several times both in person and virtually, and we have been exploring all the possible scenarios.

We want to ensure that there can be democratic participation and engagement from the majority of our members in some form - whether in person and/or virtual - and to respect the spirit and purpose of the 20th ASSITEJ World Congress. We want to do all in our power to ensure the health and safety of our members and of the children who will be audiences at the event. We want to support to the best of our ability our Japanese hosts, who have been working on this event for almost three years, and who have already invested significant resources in working towards this event for all of us.

We will be able to reach a final decision only after 1 April 2020, due to certain important national and international considerations. We ask that you are patient in the meantime.

To respect the constitution of ASSITEJ, we are sharing with you the documentation regarding the following aspects of the General Assembly, 2 months prior to the proposed start date of the General Assembly at Congress.

This communication includes:

  1. The General Assembly Agenda
  2. The proposed changes to the constitution
  3. The Bids for the Artistic Gatherings/Congress 2020-2024.
  4. Candidates for the Executive Committee 2020-2023.

We will inform you further as soon as we are able to do so. In the meantime, we ask that you address all concerns and questions to our Secretary-General, Louis, and he will do his best to answer these, given the information currently available to us: sg@assitej-international.org

We are thinking of you all in these very difficult, unprecedented times.
