Nature-Smart Library
What is a Nature-Smart Library? The first of such libraries was piloted in 2014 in St. Paul, Minnesota as a joint venture between the Sun Ray branch and the Children and Nature Network. Its goal was to use the public library as a bridge to connect children and families to nature.
Ten years later, the Camas Public Library has developed a plan for something similar. Our strategic planning process told us how important nature is to our residents, so we prioritized strengthening partnerships with organizations that focus on the natural world.
Our Nature-Smart Library will have something for all ages, integrating some of what we already do (Storytimes in the Park, checking out Discover Passes to Washington State Parks) with new endeavors. We will host programs we might've held indoors, like gardening, birdwatching, even meditation, outside. We will have even more items to check out that encourage folks to spend time outside, like picnic baskets and outdoor games.
Look for more information and the debut of our Nature-Smart Library by Summer 2024.
