Innovative Tools Available to Faculty to Make Proposal Process Efficient

During this time working remotely, DER wants to highlight some valuable tools that can benefit faculty during the proposal (budget) development process.

KC Summary Budget Tool (made accessible for PI & editable by PI)

In the KC system, your DER Research Administrator is able to create a working draft budget which can be accessed and edited by the project PI. With access to the KC system, and using the summary tab, faculty can log into Kuali Coeus to make several adjustments to the draft budget to determine the best scenario for their project. They can shuffle dollars to help drill down or up to a target dollar goal. This tool enables faculty to utilize the system in place of spreadsheets. If you are interested, be sure to request this access from your Research Administrator.

DER Presents: MSU Effort Reporting (04/29) - zoom

Event Description: This seminar is an overview of the Effort Reporting system at MSU. Meghan Cartwright (Contract and Grant Administration - Postaward) will discuss why we have effort reports, who needs an effort report, and then look at the system to better understand how to certify an effort report. Additionally, she will talk about Committed Effort versus Committed Cost Share with a look at how these percentages are determined. Please come prepared with any questions you have!

Options Available for Remote File Access and DECS Recommendations on Cybersecurity

During these times of virtual work, having the files you need is important. DECS offers various methods to remotely access College of Engineering resources from anywhere with an Internet connection. Click here to learn more!

Using Adobe for Electronic Signatures

Adobe offers an efficient and secure way to electronically sign documents. MSU has a special license that allows all staff, faculty, and students to use these features. Click here to learn more.

Spartan 365 Application

There is a mobile app that allows for scanning a whiteboard, document, or business card to One Drive, which is the document library within Spartan 365. You can also use the mobile app to mark up a PDF. This may be particularly useful when working remotely, with limited access to scanners. Click here to learn more.

Institutions affected by COVID-19 will be allowed to submit post-submission grant application materials to revise information that was submitted in an application as long as the materials are received at least fourteen days before the start of the review meeting. Community-Engaged Research an Partnership Forum

COVID-19 is reshaping the world as we know it. For many of us, the novel coronavirus has raised serious questions about the current status and future of our community-engaged research and partnerships. University Outreach and Engagement is hosting this forum for faculty, academic staff, post-docs, and graduate students to discuss how the pandemic is affecting our community-engaged research. Click here to learn more and register.

Important SCALEUP Update: FOA Modified

In response to the economic impact of the COVID-19 public health emergency, ARPA-E is altering the SCALEUP FOA by decreasing cost-share requirements and deferring these cost-share payments for approximately the first year of awards. In other words, ARPA-E will invest more money in SCALEUP projects and require less financial contributions from awardees and their potential partners.

Working From Home With Help!

To brighten everyone's week, DER is going to feature staff working from home with their furry friends who assist them! This week, meet Research Administrator, Jennifer Sergeant's, four-legged friend Brutus John. Brutus is a 13-year-old Jack Russell. He loves to destroy squeaky toys and run to greet the family horses. He is very smart and knows most commands. Brutus loves having Jennifer work from home.

If you would like to nominate a faculty member and their pets (or yourself!), email hansleyc@msu.edu
