Friends University's Dramatic Turnaround
Dr. Amy Bragg Carey grew up on small private college campuses, watching her father lead in various administrative roles and serve as a men’s basketball coach. Those formative years greatly influenced her affinity for the college experience, ultimately leading her to pursue her doctorate in higher education leadership at Azusa Pacific University. There she focused her dissertation research on effective turnaround strategies for struggling private institutions.
That research has since aided her transformative efforts as president at Friends University which began with a challenging season of transition and re-evaluation. But it laid the groundwork for significant debt reduction, the expansion of market-demand programs, increased enrollment and retention, increased giving, and an authentic spiritual revitalization on campus.
Over the last year, Dr. Carey has been sharing the success of Friends University’s turnaround with various podcasts and radio shows. In June, she was featured on KMUW’s The Range with host Tom Shine. You can listen to that episode here. She also had the opportunity to present at the Higher Learning Commission Annual Conference in April.
Throughout her decade-long tenure at Friends, Dr. Carey’s efforts have been recognized on numerous occasions by the Wichita Business Journal. Now she is one of three being inducted into the Women in Business Hall of Fame. Dr. Carey was honored at a special ceremony hosted by WBJ on July 17.
Congratulations to Dr. Carey on this incredible honor and thank you for your dedication to the Friends community over the past ten years!
