Sunday Worship Service
The Ordination of Elders in a Scottish Kirk by John Henry Lorimert

Dear St. Andrew's Community and Friends:

As we come into this weekend, it is stunning to consider the range and intensity of wildfires across the West.  As we say often -- but never often enough -- we are grateful for all the personnel dedicated to containing the damage and caring for everyone affected.

Next weekend will be a historic moment in the history of St. Andrew’s as everyone has a chance to see and hear the candidate the Pastor Nominating Committee is recommending to the congregation.  I am excited.

This week the service continues the “Glimpses of Paradise” series with a message, “Border Crossing.”  In it I try to understand why, years ago, I was stunned by reading one sentence spoken by Jesus: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”  We’ll begin with a close consideration of the passage and some reflections on spiritual psychology.  We’ll let those lead to some insights from the great poet Dante about how heaven and hell can be experienced in life, and close with a practical tool from my hospice experience.

Linda Gunther is our reader.  Chris and Erin lead us in “Lord of the Dance,” “Change My Heart O God” and “Be Not Afraid.”  (The last song was powerfully sung by Susan Sarandon in the movie “Dead Man Walking,” based on the prison ministry of Sister Helen Prejean; you can see it at  She begins singing at the four minute mark.)  We also can hear Chris’ wonderful piano solos at the beginning and end.

My time with Disciple Dog involves a personal confession and act of penance.

Following the service we will install and ordain new officers, share in a coffee hour in honor of Chris Davis, and begin a new adult education service…details below.

Another St. Andrew's

NOTICE OF CONGREGATIONAL MEETING TO CALL A NEW PASTOR: A meeting of the Congregation will be held virtually via Zoom on Sunday, September 20 at 10:30AM for the purpose of approving the Call of a new Pastor.

Dear Fellow St. Andrew’s Members,

After many months of work, your Pastor Nominating Committee is pleased to present to you a candidate for Pastor.

For the moment, information must remain confidential, but we want you to know what is coming as your participation is vital as we move forward.

On Saturday morning, September 19th we will send a biography of the candidate to the St. Andrew’s members who receive this email. That afternoon we will host a Zoom “Meet and Greet” for members to meet the candidate.

The candidate will participate in our recorded Sunday, September 20th, Worship Service posted on Youtube. Our usual Sunday morning Zoom Coffee Hour will be replaced by our Congregational Meeting to vote to approve the Call of the candidate as our new Pastor.

Your PNC believes you will be well pleased with the candidate. Your Session chose the members of the PNC well to represent the diversity of our congregation. As such, we were determined to be unanimous in nominating the next Pastor. We are!

Specific information about the Congregational Meeting and “Meet and Greet” will be sent in the near future.
