This woman.
This fucking woman.
He’d survived his father and his sire. He’d made it through wars and territory lines being redrawn, then fought over and redrawn again. Slayers hadn’t taken him out, nor had those fae bastards when they turned to unseelie evil. Lida’d death cut him down, but even the guilt and drive for revenge hadn’t finished him off.
Gemma Hawthorne would be the death of him.
Soren ripped his eyes from the vein running the length of Gemma’s neck and landed them on her face. No hesitation looked back at him. Only needy desperation that matched his own.
Another growl ripped out of him as he slanted his mouth over hers. There was nothing slow or gentle in the kiss. No sweet seduction. He swept his tongue between her lips with greedy intent. He needed to wash the memory of death from his mind and replace it with pure, fiery living.
For an impossible, deeply frustrating, mouthy woman, she saw everything. Too much, even, but he didn’t want to hide from her. She’d teased and taunted him out of wanting to murder Huxley and Dmitri and anyone else daring to raise an eyebrow in his direction, and offered a slice of herself to prove she didn’t see him as a monster.
Her life hadn’t fallen apart the moment he stepped into it. She’d been trying to hold the pieces together for years. She had plenty of reasons for her aversion to his kind. He asked so much--too much--in wanting to keep her near.
Fuck, he needed to clear away the last of those shadows the same as she’d done for him.
