This Week's Latest News!

Greetings Pleasant Green Family,

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14

  • The Fayette County Public School year began last Wednesday.  The start of this school year is unique compared with past ones because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Students are engaged in Non-Traditional Learning  (NTL) (i.e., using computers for school work from their homes). For our children to be successful, they must learn to use video conference program features and functions and to use their Chromebooks/computers in conjunction with the NTL platform that is being used for their class work.  Click HERE for helpful information for both a description of NTL process and for technical support. Remember that your child's teacher cannot help with any difficulties that your child is experiencing, if you don't tell them. Don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher if there is a problem or concern.
  • Our community continues to be alarmed by the deaths of Young Black Men through gun violence. These situations affect so many, the families of the victims, the families of the shooters, bystanders, and the community as a whole. Our first responsibility is to pray for our Young Black Men and Women. There is no magical answer to this serious problem; however, lending a listening ear to our young folks and making time for them can be a good start. Words of encouragement to our young people for positive and constructive accomplishments can possibly produce repeat behavior. Let us make ourselves a committee of one seeking ways to share our faith in the Living God and His Power to solve even the most difficult situations.  "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." 1 Corinthians 10:13
  • It is more important than ever that all of us who are eligible  to VOTE exercise our blood stained right to VOTE. Our nation is experiencing unprecedented chaos and division, COVID-19 Pandemic, protests for justice for People of Color, and an attack on  our hard fought for Civil Rights as provided in the Constitution of these United States. Not only should each of us VOTE, but we must encourage everyone that we know that is eligible to VOTE. It has been  suggested the each person reach out to at least 10 others and encourage them to REGISTER and to VOTE. Every VOTE counts!
  • With the COVID-19 Infections and deaths increasing, it is so very important for us to continue to observe the CDC Guidelines :
    • avoid close contact with those who are sick, maintain at least 6 feet from others who are not from your household,
    • wear face masks when in public (Mandatory in Kentucky and is being extended on a 30 day basis until the spread is under control)
    • wash your hands frequently,
    • cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and leave home only when absolutely necessary.

    VERY IMPORTANT !

    2020 Kentucky General  Election Plan

    Absentee voting:

In Kentucky, any voter of any age or health condition who believes they are at risk of COVID-19 can vote absentee ballot. Eligibility to vote absentee also extends to voters who are in contact with such vulnerable voters.

For those who plan to use the absentee voting option, Kentucky will be launching an online portal late next week so voters can request a ballot by mail. Ballots can be requested on the portal through Oct. 9.

Mail ballots will need to be postmarked by Election Day on Nov. 3. They will need to be received by Nov. 6, officials said.

Elections officials also said drop boxes will be available for residents to return their ballots if they are concerned about postal delays. County clerks will determine those locations.

    Early-voting:

The early-voting period across Kentucky will begin Oct. 13. It will also last for three weeks before the election and include Saturday voting for at least four hours.

According to state officials, every county clerk will provide a location for safe in-person voting. State election officials stress that early-voting is not absentee voting. Any Kentuckian can vote early for any reason.

    Election Day:

It will be up to county election officials to decide election sites on Nov. 3. Those county officials will have to have their plans approved by the secretary of state and governor's offices.

Voters in each county will see, again, a reduction in polling places. But the state hopes to offset any concerns by requiring each county to set up at least one "voting super-center," much like the Expo Center was for Jefferson County during the June primary.

Anyone from the particular county can vote at the super-center, regardless of precinct.

    Voter identification:

Kentuckians who have been unable to get a driver's license or photo ID because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and because their clerk's office was closed, can sign a document explaining these issues and cast their ballot.
