I’m so excited to share this new look for MEET ME IN THE BLACK HILLS. My cover designer Stacy took a photo of mine and transformed it into something so fresh and fun.

For their second anniversary, Jon-Paul and Sarah made a trip to the Black Hills and gave me some great new photos to work with!

Visiting the Black Hills is always a good idea, which is why it’s on our intinerary, too, but first…we are on our way to the Pacific-Northwest. This is mostly new territory for us. We were disappointed that our travel pals couldn’t join us this trip, but we’re still excited to spend time in the Olympic Pensinsula and Seattle!

First stop: Mt. Shasta at our favorite cozy little campground. Shasta is always gorgeous—especially in Spring.

From there, we’re driving straight north to Salem, Oregon, to visit an old friend. We bought our first home in California from this man in 1979…and we’re still friends.😉 The last time we saw him was in 2020 when he lived in Florence (on the Oregon coast).

A lot has changed for him since then. He bought a new home in Salem, then on a family trip to Mexico, he came down with Covid and pneumonia, which triggered a horrible immune response called Guillain-Barre Syndrome—a nightmare he’s still recovering from. It will be good to catch up.

As you’re reading this, we are on our way to our first 2-night stop near Astoria, Oregon. Paul and I visited this charming little city at the mouth of the Columbia River ten years ago and always told ourselves we’d come back when we had time to explore. Now’s that time.

Astoria has a rich history and claims to be the first permanent American settlement west of the Rocky Mountains. Learn more here:

From Astoria, we are headed to Forks (any Twilight fans here? Check this out: Twilight for real) and then we’ll spend three nights in Kitsap Memorial Park—our springboard to Seattle via a ferry ride (any fan of the Netflix series Maid will recognize the area).

Did any of you see the Northern Lights this week, which showed up in some pretty unusual places!!!? I ventured as far as my front porch and didn’t see a thing, but look at the amazing color granddaughter Malte’s boyfriend, Aaron, captured with his cell phone. I’d love to see/share any pics you might have from this stellar solar event.
