An exciting opportunity for us and our sheep came up about two months ago from the wonderful team at Oatman Flats Ranch in Gila Bend.
Oatman Flats is a historic wheat and mesquite farm with a mission "to develop the first Regenerative Organic Certified farming business model for hotter and drier climates." When we met, they were looking to add a crucial component to their regenerative agriculture model: livestock. We felt our sheep were up for the challenge, adding valuable nutrients to the soil through their consumption and digestion of cover crops.
So, we moved an experimental herd of 23 sheep and 3 burros (as livestock guardians) to Gila Bend for a trial in September. Within weeks, the team at Oatman Flats was seeing huge success, and we moved our remaining sheep to join the herd. Using solar electric fencing, we are able to rotate our sheep through the fields for their grazing. We are thrilled to see what this partnership continues to bring, and will keep everyone updated on the progress as it develops.
