Firstly, we’d like to wish each and every newsletter reader our very best wishes during these unprecedented times. We’re forever astonished at the number of emails we receive and the continued interaction of fans across the world via our website and social media platforms and the last few weeks have been no different.

Your passion for Auf Wiedersehen, Pet shines through and continues to unite during the most difficult of times. If you’ve a little down time on your hands, there really is no better time to dig out your VHS video cassettes, DVD’S and tablets and start over from Series 1, Episode 1.

“Dearest Brenda, we are now at sea....“

Christopher Fairbank AKA Albert Arthur Moxey

Whilst his arrival was met with some resistance, it was Moxey’s dartboard that first won the hearts of the lads. Only he didn’t arrive with any darts!

Series 1, Episode 2, ‘Who Won the War Anyway’ saw Moxey’s acceptance into Hut B. ‘The Magnificent Seven’ was born marking the beginning of friendships forged in adversity… and a passion for darts that would help while away the evenings in a cold, damp wooden hut!

We recently caught up with Chris Fairbank, AKA Albert Arthur Moxey, alias Brendan Mulachy, arsonist absconder (phew, that was a mouth full!) at this years ‘Sunday for Sammy’ at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena back in February and he was kind enough to record a short message for AWP fans with a special nod to those attending this year’s 20th anniversary sell out shows.

Check out what he had to say by clicking on the Facebook post below!

We also grabbed the opportunity to ask Chris a quick ‘fire’ (pun intended) round of questions about his time on set. Find out how he got the part of Moxey, his favourite AWP filming location, how he felt about reviving his character in 2002 prior to adventures to Middlesbrough, Arizona and beyond, and what was his strongest memory filming at Thornely Manor in Nottinghamshire.

Plus, we asked Chris to give us one little known AWP fact diehard fans might not know and his answer prompted us to dig out a never-before-released animated video we’ve had locked away for 7 years, until now. Keep reading to find out more!

Q&A with Chris Fairbank

We’d like to sincerely thank Chris for taking time out of his busy schedule to record a video message and answer our questions.

Ever wondered what it would be like to travel back in time and walk through the site entrance gates of television’s most famous construction site; the BECO Building Site? Well wonder no more.

Whilst many believe our British brickies were working on a large building site in Dusseldorf, the vast majority of filming actually took place in the UK on a small purpose-built film set on a 2-acre backlot at Elstree Studios, in Hertfordshire, UK.

The Ultimate BECO Building Site Virtual Tour was produced by team member Andy Patrick and premiered at the 30th Anniversary Auf Wiedersehen, Pet ‘Brickie’s Builders Banquette’ at NewcastleGateshead Hilton Hotel back in September 2013 where Cast, Crew, Directors, Writers and diehard fans of the show united to celebrate the award-winning show.

Our three-dimensional virtual tour interweaves numerous familiar Series 1 scenes filmed at Elstree Studios with real-time animation to offer you a truly unique insight into how the film set was used and how it would have looked during filming in 1982. Discover how Directors and film crew exploited every inch of the site and how they convinced our minds our magnificent 7 were many miles from British soil.

The BECO Building Site Virtual Tour will Premiere on YouTube on Sunday 31st May at 9pm when we hope you'll join us to retrace the very footsteps of Dennis, Oz, Neville, Wayne, Bomber, Barry and Moxey. Climb ladders, cross scaffolding and visit the Admin Hut, Turks Hut and Amenities Hut. Then enter the home of the Magnificent 7, Hut B as it would have looked prior to its demise following Wayne’s carelessly discarded cigarette in the 13th final fatal episode; ‘When the Boat Goes Out’.

But before you grab a Becks from the fridge, sit back, relax and enter the BECO Building Site Virtual Tour, this animation comes with a warning…. you may never view the series in quite the same way again… You have been warned!

Stan Hey with Jimmy Nail (Oz) on the BECO Building Site film set, Elstree Studios, Hertfordshire filming the final scenes of Episode 13, ‘When the Boat Goes Out

Due to other commitments, Ian Le Frenais and Dick Clement asked writer Stan Hey to pen two episodes sparking some of the most memorable scenes from series 1; ‘Home Thoughts from Abroad’ and ‘When the Boat Goes Out’.

Back in 2016 we contact writer Stan Hey to ask how he was commissioned and for his first-hand account of what it was like to step foot on the BECO Building Site at Elstree Studios for the first time.

Find out what Stan had to say about this incredible film set and check out several beautifully preserved continuity photographs from his archives.
