MUSIC & STORIES - VOICES OF MYANMAR, Online, Wednesday 26th May, 9am

In this event, three storytellers from Myanmar will share their stories to help you understand what people are experiencing following the coup in February, and have been experiencing under the reign of the violent military since the inception of the country.

Not only will you get a chance to hear their stories you will also watch two different musical performances. At the beginning of each story, the storyteller will pose a question to the audience, which you will get to discuss in small groups with other event participants.

THEATRE - KING LEAR, Online, Tuesday-Friday 25th-28th May, 11am or 3pm

The KL theatre group Shakespeare Demystified used to come to Penang every year to present its shorter, and simplified versions of Shakespeare’s classic plays, to the delight of children and adults alike. This online (Zoom) presentation will be live, with the actors performing in real time--although in different venues--while the audience is watching. As always the show will be interactive, with the audience able to discuss and comment on what they see. Canonical scenes and speeches from the play in the original text, will be knitted together by narration in contemporary English. Tickets RM 30.

Penang Art District is looking for photographers with a passion for BIRDS and nature to participate in a photography exhibition of birds in Penang as part of OPEN: A Weekend in Penang. If you have captured any birds (through your lens only of course) in their natural state and interested to exhibit them, please fill in the form here. This project is organized in partnership with  The Habitat, The Penang Birder and Malaysian Nature Society.

This World Environment Day webforum has been organized to bring together professionals, practitioners, researchers, and educators to discuss the defining challenge of our time - preventing the extinction of wildlife species. Invited panelists from government organisons and NGOs will provide perspectives and insights on the main drivers of extinction among large mammals and primates with the view to outlining potential interventions. A moderated discussion will follow.

THE ILHAM ART SHOW 2022 - CALL FOR ENTRIES, Online, Until 2nd July

The ILHAM Art Show is a triennial exhibition platform to give artists the opportunity to experiment and make new work, and to support and promote contemporary art in Malaysia. Those selected to participate in the ILHAM Art Show will be awarded an art production grant (between RM2,000 – RM8,000) to be put towards the making of their new work.

Kecik-Kecik Group Show returns for its 2021 edition with over 50 participating artists!

Penang Art District once again collaborates with Hin Bus Depot to bring Malaysian contemporary art to a wider audience by introducing a wide variety of affordable contemporary pieces to grow a strong culture of collecting Malaysian art.

In light of the periodic Movement Control Order, this year, Kecik-Kecik will be conducted online for accessibility while keeping it safe for all artists and collectors.
