Welcome to the new Scottish Supporters Network newsletter, brought to you by Supporters Direct Scotland. This newsletter aims to bring our members closer together and better informed of news and best practice from across the network.

Join SDS! Reduced Membership Fees and New Membership Options

Since incorporating in Scotland at the end of last year we have been reviewing our membership structure. Existing member Trusts will be contacted over the summer to renew, at the new cost of £50 per year (previously £100). And for the first time, we are opening up our membership to individuals as well as supporter groups. If you would like to join as an Individual Member you can do so on a pay-as-you like basis via the Scottish Supporters Network Patreon page.

Group and individual members can attend our annual Supporters Summit free of charge, will receive news of all SDS work and publications, and can stand for election to the SDS board.

We are committed to keeping all of our work accessible to everyone, whether members or not. To keep up-to-date you can become an Affiliate Member by joining the Scottish Supporters Network free of charge.

Disability Access Officer Workshop Roundup

The SFA recently hosted the inaugural Disability Access Officer Workshop where a range of different stakeholders were in attendance, including representatives of thirty different SPFL clubs and the Scottish Disabled Supporters’ Association. This informative and insightful event was organised by Brian Mann and Laura Anderson from the SFA Licensing department and was held at Hampden Park.  Supporters’ Direct Scotland were in attendance to find out what it was all about.

Organisational Update

We’re delighted to announce the addition of two new members of staff following a recruitment process.

Alan Russell of the Raith Supporters Trust and Jason Barber of the Pars Supporters Trust join the team in the capacity of joint Chief Executives.

Alan and Jason bring a vast skill set to the organisation as we look to grow the impact, reach and quality of our work for the benefit of our national game and it’s supporters.

Club Development Scotland: Partick Thistle’s Fan Engagement and Women’s Survey

As part of our series of Club Development Scotland videos, we paid a visit to Partick Thistle to find out more about their recent women and girls fan engagement work, including the first ever survey of its female fans. Thistle will use the findings to create a strategy to retain and attract more girls and women to matches.

Getting to Know Your Supporters Trust – ArabTrust

It is well documented that Supporters Direct Scotland work closely with supporters trusts up and down the country and with over 25 trusts now the fans voice in Scotland is growing. In this new series we will look to speak to all supporters trusts in Scotland so that fans can learn more about their own specific trust’s roles and aims whilst seeing what is going on around elsewhere.

The next in our series is ArabTrust.

Behind The Goals Podcast

Each week we bring you a new episode looking at a different aspect of our game.

Since the last Scottish Supporters Network newsletter, in the third of our Masterclass Series, Behind the Goals spoke with Erin Fulton, Volunteer & Interns Manager at PAS about volunteering for community sport clubs.  We also spoke with Ally Palmer, editor of the excellent Nutmeg football periodical.  Ally told us about the inspirations for Nutmeg, some of his favourite articles, and his thoughts on the future of sports journalism in general.
