Three weeks ago, we announced that our founder, Harry Mitsidis, will be retiring from his leadership role at NomadMania. Now, we invite you to read Harry’s final interview — his fourth with NomadMania, following conversations in 2014, 2018, and 2022.

In this farewell conversation, Harry reflects on the journey of building NomadMania from its earliest days into the global community it is today. He shares his thoughts on stepping away, the values he hopes will continue to guide the project, the highs and lows of his years of involvement.

It is both a personal and thoughtful look back at an extraordinary chapter in NomadMania’s story — and a glimpse into what lies ahead for Harry and for the community he helped create.

Finalising the Regions Review Project

Effectively, the last major involvement from Harry with NomadMania is the Regions Review Project, which is now nearing the finish line after half a year of tedious work. Currently, there are 1,361 NomadMania regions — the most significant development in our history, after being stable at 1,301 for years.

Despite the complexity of such an undertaking, we believe our team has made the right decisions, carefully and transparently communicating with each batch of changes published in the Regions Review blog category.

The last country yet to be reviewed is China. You can expect quite a few new regions in this fascinating but still relatively little-known country.

Before we finalise the Regions Project with China, we would like to take one final, thorough look at what we have and make any necessary adjustments.

This is our final call to the community to propose improvements to any country. The best way to catch up is to follow the roadmap.

Just hit “Reply” and let us know your thoughts.

The next announced changes will be final. Thank you for your help 🙂

[POLL] New regions in Chile and Kiribati?

As part of our internal final review of regions — and largely thanks to active community feedback — we are considering the creation of new regions for Chile and Kiribati based on their significant archipelagos: Juan Fernández and the Phoenix Islands, respectively.

Based on our usual criteria, neither of these entities would qualify as separate regions according to the Optimal Score and other factors. At present, both are classified as DARE places on NomadMania.

However, given the strong community input and their somewhat traditional perception by some as distinct entities, we are putting this question to a general NomadMania community poll.

Should Juan Fernández and the Phoenix Islands become official NomadMania regions for Chile and Kiribati, respectively?
