3 out of 7 laureates of the Global Lithuanian Awards 2020 refused to accept the awards from the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, sighting their disagreement with the President's stans regarding LGBTQ+ related issues. Read more about it here and here. The event drew extensive media coverage in Lithuania, it even found its place in a discussion between two famous comedy characters - mice Sūrskis and Mauzeris. GLL respects this civic position of the laureates, and we are glad the Awards serve as a platform to raise these critical questions. Read the full official GLL statement here. We support the LGBTQ+ community in Lithuania and the diaspora in their quest for equal rights. We will seek to use the scheduled meeting with the President on July 16th for a constructive discussion on values important to us and the global community of Lithuanian professionals. Global Lithuanian Awards 2020 laureates were selected and announced online in January. The awards ceremony was postponed to summer due to quarantine restrictions.

GLL seeks to represent the interests of the modern diaspora better, therefore we call global professionals to join a task force and shape the GLL agenda on diversity and equal rights in Lithuania.
We believe it is not only a question of LGTBQ+, but the human rights of those in a lesser power position, including women, children, ethnic minorities, disabled people, and others. Let's work together for a more inclusive Lithuania - a diverse work & living place - to promote innovations, sustain & attract talents & foreign investments.
