The Saudi Arabian-flagged Tanker AMJAD (IMO: 9779800) was attacked approximately 58NM west of Hodeidah, Yemen. The Master reported that the vessel was struck by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).
US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the AMJAD, along with the tanker BLUE LAGOON l, was attacked by two anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBM) and a one-way attack uncrewed aerial system (UAS), hitting both vessels.
Both vessels were reportedly laden with crude oil, with the AMJAD, whose owner is Saudi national shipping group Bahri, carrying about two million barrels of oil, according to CENTCOM. Open-source reports indicate that the ships were sailing near each other when they were hit. The AMJAD reportedly has a maximum capacity of 2 million barrels, but according to CENTCOM was unlikely to have been directly targeted.
No casualties have been reported, and the vessel has continued its transit to the next port of call. Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
All vessels in the area are advised to proceed with caution and to report any suspicious activities to the UKMTO.
