Hello
How are you doing? Greetings from Uruguay 🇺🇾
Do you have a business idea related to land in Uruguay but you’ve hesitated because you think it’s a bit too crazy, or you don’t have the contacts, or you haven’t moved to Uruguay yet?
I met David Dickinson this year but I’ve been following him for a while on LinkedIn, curious to learn about another Brit living and working here in Uruguay.
David is the VP of his family’s dairy business. Longley Farm was started by his grandfather in Yorkshire in 1948. His goal was to make the best quality cream, butter, cottage cheese and yogurt. To do that he realised the importance of treating their Jersey cows, the land and their team well. In the last few decades Longley has set up farms in Europe and Australia. Fifteen years ago, David came to Uruguay impressed by the quality of the Uruguay campo (countryside) and looking to emulate what Longley does in the UK.
David reached out to me because he’d like to make contact with other like-minded people also looking to do business in Uruguay.
He’d love to hear from you if you have a small to medium size business—or business idea—related to the land. It could be in farming, organics, tourism, etc (but not real estate).
It doesn’t matter how crazy your idea might look on paper. In fact David is excited to work with people who think in unexpected ways.
David and I agree that Uruguay is a good place to invest with high-quality basics such as excellent internet connectivity and good transport networks. But there are challenges. Having run Campo Longley from Progreso in Canelones since 2009, David is familiar with the realities of doing business in the rural Uruguayan context, warts and all.
I’m always saying that personal recommendations in Uruguay are so important. David has a ton of personal and professional connections that take time to build that he is willing to share.
If you’d like to reach out to David, contact him using the form on the Campo Longley website or on LinkedIn. Flag that you read about him in the Guru’Guay newsletter to get his immediate attention.
I’m excited to learn what kind of connections may be made in the future, so definitely keep me posted!
