On this Christmas Eve, we continue our look at biblical JOY exemplified through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Jesus brought joy into the world in some very practical ways. Every time He healed a person, cast out a demon, or forgave a sin, joy was the immediate result.
Luke 2:10 teaches, When the angel announced the birth of Jesus to shepherds in the field, his first words were “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people”
That “great joy” was the truth that the God who had seemed far off had come to them in human flesh. He was to be called “Immanuel,” which means “God with us” (Matthew 1:23)
He had come to rescue, to save, to heal, and to make mankind right with God which was cause for great joy!
Jesus brought joy to the world in His first coming to earth as a baby, and He will bring joy to the world when He comes again to reign as King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16).
Because Jesus came the first time and is poised to come the second time, we can sing with conviction, “Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her king!”
The joy of the Lord is our strength. To God Be The Glory for Joy only He can give. Peaceful, contentment, limitless Joy…a free gift to all who believe!

CHRISTMAS CARD MAIL CALL
On Wednesday evening, Rev. Wendell Emerson led a group of volunteers, Sisters Whitney Jackson, Ebony Jones, Vicki Laine, and Brother Walter Speed in the sorting of approximately 2,500 Christmas cards. Sister McKinley Emerson assisted in creating the labels for the Mail Call Christmas Card DistributionTable. While sorting the cards, we remembered two of the original volunteers, Brother Ovan and Sister Gloria Hatchett, who volunteered for many years in the past.
Following the Christmas Eve service benediction, the congregants filed into the Sunday school annex to pick up Christmas cards. This has now become a long time Pleasant Green Christmas tradition.
Our appreciation goes to the gracious volunteers and the leadership of Rev. Wendell Emerson in preparing for the distribution of the Mail Call Christmas cards.
What Beautiful Ministry during this Christmas Season!

CHRISTMAS FRUIT BAG PREPARATION
At 9:00 AM on Saturday morning, December 23, HPGMBC Missionaries and volunteers gathered in the Sunday school assembly area ready to prepare Christmas fruit bags for those attending service on Sunday, Christmas Eve. After the fruit arrived, the volunteers immediately began stuffing bags with apples and oranges and later with peppermint canes and topped off the bags with a twist tie. When the work was completed, there were more than 150 fruit bags prepared.
Our appreciation goes out to all of the volunteers who participated in long held Pleasant Green Christmas Season tradition continued by the Sunday School and Missionary Ministries.

This Sunday, our month long celebration of our 233rd Church Anniversary continued.
The call to worship was given by Rev. Freddie Moody, Jr. who also acted as the Pulpit Conductor for the special program.
Young Brother Elijah Jackson read scripture and Deacon Anthony Wright offered a soul stirring, heartfelt invocation.
Sisters Diane Mabson Barnes accompanied by the HPGMBC Choir led a spirited rendition of “Go Tell It On the Mountain!”
Trustee Benjamin Brown gave the 233rd Church Anniversary Occasion, recalling many of the old Saints and their positive influence on his generation to pursue law enforcement and fire fighter careers. He also gave credit to Sunday school education as a foundation for leading many to accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Trustee Brown called for a return to Basic Religious Beliefs and Ideals to deal with many of world's problems and difficulties.
The young people of the Children's Sunday Ministry offered a warm and precious welcome to all who were present.
The Historic Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church choir rendered a moving rendition of ”Oh What A Wonderful Child!”
Church history reflections were given by: Sis. Jacqueline Maupin (81 years old), who shared how she first came to Pleasant Green along with a humorous occurrence when her purse fell out of her car and she was able to retrieve it untouched. Sis. Anna Tatman, who has been a Christian for 74 years, shared how she came to join Pleasant Green and how her children ( her oldest now 63 years old) were baptized and grew up in this church. Their reflections continued our Special Anniversary “Saluting Our Seniors.”
Sister Valerie Marshall gave a very illustrative introduction of Pastor Calvin Shears, highlighting his personality traits using the letters of his last name, "Shears."
The HPGMBC Choir rendered a stirring rendition of "Now Behold the Lamb" before our our pastor, Rev. Dr. Shears delivered the morning message entitled “Not How You Start But How You Finish” from Genesis 1:1-7.
After the Invitation to Christian Discipleship was extended, the Pastor gave closing remarks and conferred the Benediction.
As the congregants filed out of the sanctuary into the Sunday school assembly area, they picked up their Christmas Cards from the Mail Call table and a Christmas bag filled with oranges, apples, and candy canes.
Please continue to keep Pastor and Sis. Shears and their family in our prayers.

FLU
Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.
Flu shots are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding a flu vaccination.
RSV
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common, contagious virus that usually causes mild symptoms. In older adults and adults with certain underlying conditions, RSV can cause severe infections.
RSV shots are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding a RSV vaccination.
COVID-19
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention. Older people and those with underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Anyone can get sick with COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age.
The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease and how the virus spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by staying at least 1 metre apart from others, wearing a properly fitted mask, and washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently. Get vaccinated when it’s your turn and follow local guidance.
The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. These particles range from larger respiratory droplets to smaller aerosols. It is important to practice respiratory etiquette, for example by coughing into a flexed elbow, and to stay home and self-isolate until you recover if you feel unwell.
Both COVID vaccines and Booster COVID vaccines are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding COVID vaccinations.
