Principal’s Comments
Kia ora koutou,
A warm welcome to the six new students who joined Room 8 this week. I am sure you will have a fantastic time at our school and create many happy memories in the years to come.
Congratulations to our students who participated in Tuesday’s speech finals. It’s always inspiring to see the confidence of our young speakers and how they can engage an audience. Best wishes to Noah and Arlo as they represent our school at next week’s Peninsula speech competition.
With winter nearly over and many of our sporting competitions concluding, I want to acknowledge the volunteers who make these events possible. The coaches, managers, and supporters of our netball and hockey teams work hard on the sidelines during winter, but their effort clearly shows in the joy, learning, and growth of the children. Many of you are also deeply involved in local clubs, which are vital to our community. Thank you to all our volunteers.
Next week, we celebrate our Book Week, which takes place every second year as an opportunity to foster a love of reading among our tamariki. The library will be open each morning before school for parents to visit. A selection of books will be available for purchase to be donated back to the library to help us keep it stocked with fresh and relevant reads for the children. Books can be bought for $15, $20, $25, or $30.
Tuesday 26th August marks our Grandparents’ Day. It’s a special day for visitors and our children, who love showcasing their classes and school. Please see the separate communication for details about the day. Throughout the week, we will also host visiting authors and conclude with our Book Character Dress-Up Day on Friday, 29th August.
A reminder that our School Board Elections are underway. Please remember to cast your vote before the closing time of 4pm on Wednesday, 10 September.
The dates and times for the end-of-year prize giving ceremonies are confirmed. The Year 0-3 prizegiving will take place from 1pm to 3pm on Friday, 5th December. The Year 4-6 prizegiving will be from 1pm to 3pm on Friday, 12th December. Stay updated with event details via the community calendar on our school website.
Tomorrow’s assembly will be hosted by Room 15. You’re more than welcome to join us at 9am in the school hall.
Ngā mihi nui,
