Landmark Events
Hi
Welcome to May’s edition of the newsletter. We’re approaching the halfway mark in the year, and it seems like 2022 is flying by!
Also quickly approaching is the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Whether you’re excited to celebrate the landmark, or just looking forward to a four-day weekend, I think it’s worth congratulating the Queen on 70 years of service.
Speaking of which, I had my first opportunity to travel on the new Elizabeth line this month – very nice! But does anyone know why it’s called ‘Elizabeth line’? Does that mean you call it the Elizabeth line line? Maybe I’m overthinking that one!
In other landmark events, I’m extremely excited to announce that Prism Digital’s long-awaited new website is finally here!
Whilst the Queen is having her big event this weekend, we had a huge one ourselves this month with London DevOps being hosted at AWS’s offices. It was a fantastic meetup with some great speakers, and it was wonderful to see so many people there get involved in the truly great community that is London DevOps. If you didn’t get a chance to make the meetup, not to worry, it returns in June on the 22nd at MoneySuperMarket’s office. Don’t miss this one! There are also some exciting further venues in the pipeline for the future too, so make sure you’re signed up to the London DevOps meetup group to keep up to date. If you would like your organisation to host a London DevOps meetup in the future, you can register your interest here.
In DevOps news, the DevOps Institute has released its Upskilling IT 2022 Report, which is must-read material for anyone interested in the DevOps market. I think the main takeaway I took from the report is how competitive the fight for DevOps talent is and will be in the future. It’s incredibly important to nail your hiring strategy so that you’re not left behind. You can have a look at the report yourself using the link further down the newsletter.
The immense challenge to hire DevOps staff is very much apparent from our experience too. If you’re actively looking to hire at the moment, I’m sure you can relate to the challenges. Candidates are being presented with so many options that we are seeing companies often losing out at the last hurdles. I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to move fast in this market, leaving a candidate for just a week will likely see you miss out. You can also broaden your options, by casting further afield, taking advantage of remote working to increase your access to talent as well as attract more people who aren’t overly keen on heading to the office (quite a high proportion of people in tech believe it or not!). But first and foremost, just make sure you’re on it because DevOps Engineers aren’t sticking around.
As always, if you want to talk to me about the market, DevOps trends, etc. do not hesitate to get in touch, it would be great to hear from you. Book a call with me here
I hope everyone has a lovely long weekend, enjoys the festivities, and has a wonderful beginning to summer!
