Today I'm not here to promote my blog in any way. That is why what you usually find in the footer of this email isn't going out today.
Today isn't about me, A Little R & R, or my YouTube channel.
I am sure you are all following the situation in the Ukraine right now. Croatia's border is less than 200 miles from the Ukrainian border, so we are in a wonderful position to help rescue those fleeing their homes.
I had intended to write something of my own in this newsletter, but my sister - who is also our pastor's wife - wrote a letter to their supporters, and she wrote it well.
I simply want to share her words with you, and ask you to please help - and, of course, please pray.
Prayer is desperately needed right now. Prayer for the safety of all civilians, prayer for divine wisdom for world leaders.
Prayer for the safety of surrounding nations - particularly former U.S.S.R. nations who are feeling uncertain about what the outcome will be for them if Ukraine falls to Russia.
Here is the letter:
Dear Friends and Family,
Greeting from Zagreb, Croatia.
We believe that the church across the globe is concerned and disturbed by what they read and see on the news regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine and know that brothers and sisters from all over are looking for ways to help.
While Ukraine is not terribly close to Croatia, our church has several Ukrainian members that moved from Jalta to Croatia 5 years ago.
Our Ukrainian members are presently in contact with friends and acquaintances who are looking for a way to flee Ukraine and they have asked for our assistance.
Yesterday morning Croatian Prime Minister Plenković announced that Croatia would be allowing asylum to Ukrainian refugees, and in the past 24 hours, we have been able to obtain shelter for about 5-7 families.
This brings me to my reason for contacting you.
These refugees will need to be picked up at the border (all airports and busses are currently closed down and the borders are extremely difficult to cross).
We will more than likely need to rent a large van for transport, some may need medical attention; and since the refugees will not be allowed to work immediately, we will need to provide them with food, cover their utilities, and possibly find them clothing for the next 2-4 months.
Would you be willing to consider helping our ministry to provide aid to these refugees?
Thank you for your faithful support and prayers. Let us continue to lift up Ukraine in our prayers.
Mario and Bonnie Dučić
I would also like to add a few things:
1. The ministry that handles donations for our church takes nothing for administrative costs. The only money they reserve from donations is the $30 fee it costs to have funds wired from the American bank to our Croatian church bank account.
2. I personally know the pastor of the church that overseas our church's finances. He is a trusted and long-time pastor in Dallas, TX. Any donations made are 100% guaranteed to arrive and are tax-deductible.
