Vol. 13, August 2024

The fall semester has officially begun, both on the Searcy campus and in Rome, Italy, where the HUE (Harding University in Europe) program is underway! Before we dive into the first days of HUE in Rome, we want to share one last memory from the summer semester. As you may recall from a previous newsletter, the summer HUG group wrapped up their semester in Paris, France, coinciding with the Olympics. To capture the magic of that unique experience, we reached out to summer HUG student Paris Khan, asking her to reflect on her time in the city that shares her name. We hope you enjoy this glimpse into a truly once-in-a-lifetime event.

Be sure to check back next month for the adventures of all three fall study abroad programs!

HUG student Paris Khan visits Paris during the Olympics

To visit Paris was a checkmark on my bucket list that I had been waiting for my whole life. Also, my name is Paris, so I was glad that I could finally tell people, "Yes, I have been to the city." Going to Paris, France, especially when the Olympics were being hosted there, was the most fun I had on the whole abroad trip. Paris is a beautiful city and the Olympic games were an amazing experience.

At the Olympic Games I saw handball and got to go with a small group from the trip and it was a great time to connect with those classmates and watch an entertaining event. The whole process of going to the games and getting into the stadiums was super easy because of it being completely set up by Harding before. I really appreciated being able to navigate and get through the huge city without difficulties.

With having 2 1/2 days in Paris, my friends and I made the most of our time. We saw the Palace of Versailles, the Eiffel Tower multiple times, and went to the Louvre. Paris has the most amazing monuments and buildings. Trying new food, stopping at vendors on the streets, and taking pictures everywhere were my highlights of the trip. Paris is a memory I will always cherish, and I hope to go back one day. I thank Harding for this experience.

HUE
Harding University in Europe

HUE kicked off the fall study abroad semester by departing the U.S. on Friday, August 23rd. Their first stop on the grand tour of Europe was Rome, Italy. While exploring the Eternal City, students visited iconic landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, the Vatican, and many more. They even had the unique experience of riding Vespa scooters to see Rome from a different perspective. After Rome, the group continued their journey to the next destination of the semester—Florence. Be sure to check back in September to see where their adventures take them next!
