We have started off this year by making a significant impact in the lives of approximately 4,148 individuals who have been left deserted following fires, storms and floods in their neighbourhood. Read up on our reports below to see how lives have been changed.

CityHope sent a team into Malawi following the recent floods which took place in early March. We worked in partnership with CBN South Africa, Crown Ministries and Iris Relief Malawi to distribute 20 Tonnes of food aid to over 1,000 families in the affected districts. It was such a privilege to be able to collaborate with the various organisations in making a significant difference in these communities.

City Logistics has been phenomenal with their outstanding service and support as they have collected donations on our behalf from around South Africa and have transported Hope Kits to Cape Town, JHB and Ladysmith when disaster has struck.

We are most grateful for our strategic partners in JHB and Cape Town who hold stock of our Hope Kits and pull together teams of volunteers when the need arises in their area. Cornerstone Church in Bedfordview and The Warehouse in Cape Town have played a pivotal role in our responses in their regions.

CityHope Disaster Relief can help people in need because of the generous donations we receive and the sponsors that we have. All donations are greatly appreciated and will go a long way in making a lasting impact in so many lives.

Food prices in Zimbabwe have been increasing exorbitantly, putting additional strain on the citizens who already find themselves in dire situations when it comes to accessing basic necessities. The bread price has increased by a whopping 66% and the country is also in the middle of a severe shortage of US Dollars, which has dwindled fuel and medical supplies significantly.

CityHope, in partnership with CBN South Africa, will be sending relief aid to hundreds of destitute families to help them in this time of need.

About 1.85 million people have now been affected by Cyclone Idai and its aftermath in Mozambique alone. Idai flattened homes and provoked widespread flooding when it made landfall near the Mozambique port city of Beira on March 14, 2019. It then ripped through neighbouring Zimbabwe and Malawi. In the Southern Hemisphere, it currently ranks as the second or third deadliest tropical cyclone on record.

Our Malawi Trip

Some 200,000 people in Malawi have been displaced by floods that have affected half of the country’s 28 districts. The government has recorded at least 56 deaths and over 500 injuries, as of Wednesday 13th March. Many of those affected are in evacuation camps because of floods that have destroyed their houses, damaged roads, washed away bridges and killed livestock. The flooding was a result of a tropical cyclone that blew in from neighbouring Mozambique.

We flew to Malawi to respond to the disaster. Take a look at our video to see how we helped.

We are most delighted to have gained an additional 123 volunteers through the City Hill Church Engage Series, which took place earlier this year. These volunteers were eager to help when we required their assistance in packing 450 Hope Kits earlier this month. Thank you for your valuable support!
