Florida State cuts ribbon on new Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science building

Florida State University marked the official opening of its state-of-the-art Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science Building and paid tribute to one of the university’s former presidents during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday. Former FSU President Eric J. Barron and his wife, Molly, returned to FSU for the grand opening. FSU trustees, along with EOAS faculty, staff and students also attended the event. Read more ...

Florida State University unveils statue of former President Barron

Florida State University honored former President Eric Barron with the unveiling of a life-size bronze statue to commemorate Barron’s tenure as president of the university. The statue was unveiled at the grand opening of the new Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science Building, a project Barron launched during his tenure. Barron served as president from 2010 to 2014 before taking the presidency at Penn State University. FSU researchers look to natural products to shed light on protein interactions in cancer, neurological diseases

A team of Florida State University researchers from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry found that a fungus that attacks almond and peach trees may be key to identifying new drug targets for cancer therapy. Graduate student Ananya Sengupta and Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry James Frederich and others found that a product derived from the fungus could shed light on cellular interactions prominent in cancer. Read more ...
